Just wanted to say that I write for Home Design Find the company advertising for a architecture/home design bloggers and it is a really great gig.
The pay is fair and always regular, the owner of the site is really helpful and easy to work with and the work is fun too if you are into interiors etc.
Just thought I should let people know because I have worked for a fair few idiots and it is always nice to do a job where the other person knows what they want etc.

FYI, the finance article writer gig was listed a long time ago on my hometown CL, and I applied for it. They responded back and said they were very interested, but it turned out to be just someone sending me to their debt management/consolidation site, where I had to sign up for a phone consultation with a debt specialist. I did it because it seemed like the only way to access the site – I responded to the person who started the site asking if there was a better way to get to the “client side” of the site, because they said I shouldn’t have to go to the access form… never had a response back. I wouldn’t apply to it if I were you.

Same here about the finance article writer gig. I responded to it over a month ago and have since seen it posted at least 10 times with the exact same wording. I suppose the red flag should have been $50 per article and no experience or expertise necessary.

I wanted to send out a word to the Freelance Writers community. I think I found the gig on here but I’m not sure. I phone interviewed this morning with a UK-based holistic website, Megavista. The ad was misleading as it was a “revenue” sharing writing gig so I wasn’t interested. It pretty much was a waste of my time. If they had told me it was revenue sharing, I wouldn’t have bothered. Also, they are a start-up so it could be iffy in general. Just wanted to send out that blast to everyone in case you come across the ad.
I just want to say thanks to everyone who posts warnings when they’ve had a negative experience with a potential employer, like Roxie and Steve have today. It’s really nice of you to share your experiences with us and to save us time and energy. Thanks!
Please beware of one of the jobs above, Im not sure which one it is, but it’s a telecommute position and it’s from Quetin Cougher, whose site makes you pay before even having any sort of job. I just got an email from him. Im sorry but I don’t pay to get a job.
This is a great site. Thanks for taking the time to summarize these freelance opportunities. Also, thanks to all the other posters who have provided additional information and warnings. I am just beginning to explore the freelance writing world. Any suggestions on best ways to set up the business side of things for tax purposes? Schedule C only or something more formal?

If you’re just starting to earn freelance money, be VERY AWARE of your tax liability. It came as quite a shock to me to learn that I had to pay regular taxes, plus self employment taxes (in the way an employer pays SS) and if you make too much money and don’t pay quarterly taxes they’ll dig you for a pretty penny of a fine.
I use Tax Cut software – the self employment version and it covers all the basis. But seriously, if you’re making a decent living look into it before it’s too late.

The basic requirements for the blog are simple, write a blog that is interesting, well written and will garner some page views. You are initially paid 1.00 per 100 word post per day. Once you have posted 30 times you are eligible for a second blog, making you up to 60 dollars a month. Page view bonuses add up as well, 2.00 for every thousand. Basically, the more you work at your blog the more money you can make. Interesting well written topics will get you more page views which means more money.

I didn’t go to collage for, pardon my language, shit pay when I have a degree and am very well-educated. I can translate French and I pick up tech easily. There is no way I am going to waste my time on nonsense like this offer. The economy is not so bad that I can’t thumb my nose at misers and look elsewhere for a gig. Thank you all for tolerating me but I am can’t withstand the carpetbaggers that prey on writers.
