Introducing the New Freelance Writing Jobs Forum

You asked for it and you got it. I’m happy to announce the grand opening of the brand, spanking new Freelance Writing Jobs forum.

Due to popular demand (as in a unanimous community consensus) we now have a place to get into more in depth discussions about the issues facing freelance writers today. This is your forum. Please use it to discuss all issues relating to freelance writing – and beyond – there’s even an off topic folder.

As the forum is brand new, many of the topics are empty. Please don’t hesitate in getting the party started! It only takes one person to get the ball rolling!

If you feel something is missing, feel free to let me know. There are folders for discussing the different places to work and also places to share job leads. You can discuss blogging, social media and nichey stuff.

Enjoy, I look forward to taking the Freelance Writing Jobs Community a step further!

Hey, I got a job today! I applied to one I saw here, they had filled it but needed something even more up my alley. Weird how that happens, and just when you need it. Thanks for everything!

  3. That’s wonderful! I can’t wait to check it out!

    Thanks so much, Deb!!!

  4. Deb says:

Thanks all, I hope it will be very active.

@Jill – Congrats. Sometimes patience counts. I had one job offer yesterday, I decided to take it. Then a second came rolling in. Both of them are jobs I applied for 4-6 months ago. The second one (Health/Fitness Writer) sounded good until I got to the line that they want one article written as a trial, unpaid I discovered, and then after that they are not sure how much they’ll be able to pay and are looking for those willing to work for little to nothing until their site takes off. That situation rarely works out, so I decided to pass.

Months ago, I took a job with a brand new site and quickly was promoted to marketing manager which would stay at the salary I had at that time and then I would get a raise and start getting a percentage of their sales commissions. Three months passed without the promised raise or any commissions when they told me they were dropping the marketing division completely and demoted me back to a writer earning half of what I was making when I first started because they suddenly were low on funds. I find start-ups are great for quick cash but definitely not for longevity.

    @Jill and all -
Wonderful about your gig – and I landed one yesterday that I found out about from here. Doesn’t pay very well but business is slow and I’m really interested in the subject.
@Deb, thanks for the forum. I have a few ideas, but no time with the new gig!!

  7. Omar says:

I need help. I’m a writer but I want to know if it’s a good idea to take a job outside of my craft to increase my income?

    Thanks

  8. Anne G. says:

@Omar – I live by one motto – Do what you need to do to survive!

It brings me back to a game I received as a teenager called “Scruples.” I remember my friends and I getting into a heated debate with my mom, all over one question. “Would you ever steal?”

Quickly, I answered yes and my mom, raised as a Catholic, was furious. My mom’s stance was that stealing is a sin and under no circumstances should you.

I pointed out that if I had kids and they were starving and no help was available, I would most certainly steal food to make sure they had a full stomach.

If you need the money, I say go for the outside job until you have your writing beefed up to the point where you can survive on that income alone.

Another thing to remember, I was just talking about this with a friend. She went to refinance her mortgage and was turned down. The bank she’s been a member of forever has new policies that self-employment income as a freelancer is not counted as regular income because the work comes and goes. She had to go back to them with her college degree in English to prove she had the knowledge to make a living doing what she’s doing.

This is a first for me and something that makes me question what would happen to those without a degree. Does that mean their income doesn’t count?

What’s up, is there anybody else here?
If it’s not just all bots here, let me know. I’m looking to network
Oh, and yes I’m a real person LOL.
