Ok, so we have lists of the best places to find freelance writing jobs, and the best places to find telecommuting jobs. Now lets talk about the best job search websites. Though these aren’t freelance writing job specific, I’m learning that many of the people in FWJ’s community like to do their own job searches – for freelance writing and other work. Plus, many job search engines and sites include jobs for freelancers including writers. So here it is:

10 Best Job Search Websites:

  1. Craigslist – I always get flack for including Craiglist in my “best” lists, but the reality is it’s the most popular job search site on the web. It includes freelance and full time work, and lots of area specific opportunities. Yes, there’s are stinkers there too, but the FWJ community is smart and knows to avoid the clunkers and go for the gold.
  2. Monster - Monster.com also features a list of corporate opportunties from all over the world with some freelance and telecommuting jobs thrown in for good measure. I’ve come across a few scams lately as well, so proceed with caution with the shady looking ones.
  3. Indeed.com - A job search engine aggreating job leads from all around the web. Simply type in the job your looking for, location if desired and hit enter. Soon you’ll see a listing of opportunities culled from around the web.
  4. The Ladders – Features jobs paying $100,000 annually or more. Oh if only.
  5. Career Builder – Touts itself as the largest job search site on the web. It’s a good one, features a good variety of jobs.
  6. Hot Jobs - Yahoo’s job search site.
  7. Simply Hired – Has millions of listings in an easy to use site.
  8. Dice.com – A technology job board.
  9. USAJobs - Job search website featuring government gigs.
  10. All Job Search – Culls gigs from over 500 newspapers around the US.

  1. Work at Home says:

I would have to say, after reviewing this post, I appreciate that you are giving people legitimate places to look for home employment. Being a freelance writer, I would like to mention also that I have seen some good temporary writing jobs at sologig.com as well.

Monster is not a good place to find a work at home job, in my opinion. You would need a college degree at the very least to even be looked at on that site. I say this from experience, the companies that pay the big bucks to release a job position in that site, require a lot from the employee they get in return. They put on filters, and the very first one is college, because it is easiest to filter out.

I just wanted people to know this because I don’t want them to feel down if they don’t get anything from some of the larger sites. It is not their skill or ability holding them back. It is the filter that the larger companies use that make it so most of us won’t even get seen by the potential employer.
