Freelance Writing Jobs for Thursday March 5, 2009

Happy birthday, Mom!

I mentioned this a few days back, but I’m noticing a definite trend in better paying freelance writing jobs. For instance, with blogging jobs. There was a depressing tendency towards really, really low paying blogs. $1 a post or only half-assed rev shares. What I like now is that I’m seeing bigger payouts. $20 to $30 per blog post even. This is a major step from away from the cheap blog content of the past couple of years.

Here are some leads for you!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the leads Deb. Speaking of blogs that don’t pay I see b5Media is looking for something for nothing now.

What do you think of that?

  2. Kayla Connoly says:

Whoa M. I checked the link at Splendicity and they want a lot for no pay. Quote:

Let’s just nail that b5media coffin shut.

Hi Deb – is it possible to get a link up on the front page to the “web and print” section? It took me forever to figure out that Thursday’s leads weren’t on the same page as Wednesday’s.

  4. Pat says:

I like the potential of the new look of your website; however, it does appear that the ghost is still in the machine. I had to click on several links to find the job listings for today. And the homepage header has some overlapping ads / links. It’s hard to tell what’s supposed to be there.

Really appreciate all the hard work you and your gang have put into this site. It’s been extremely helpful to me in jump-starting an actual freelance career! Thanks!!!

  5. Brick ONeil says:

I was with Demand Studios for five months last year going into this year. They never had topics for my areas and didn’t update the lists once while I was with them, yet the continued to advertise for more writers. Good luck to anyone applying.

  6. Deb says:

shannon it does link – it’s a feed so sometimes it takes a while. You can just click the Writing gigs category at the top of the page as well.

  7. JuliaJolie says:

Hey, thanks for a LOT of good leads today, Deb :) )

Also, I like how one of the ads says “Brazilian to English translation”.

Methinks they pretty much meant (Brazilian) Portuguese. Lol

  8. Vicki says:

Deb, I want to thank you for a lot of good leads. I’ve gotten several paid gigs from your site!

Also…as for Demand Studios, I’ve only been writing for them for a week or two now, but I’ve found several topics that, while they’re not in my specific area of expertise, were very easy to research and write up a quick article about. Quickly enough that I figure I make between $25 to $30 per hour, so far. It’s a great “extra” project…but, it probably won’t feed your entire family due to the limited titles.

  9. Abby says:

    Brick:

I joined demand and submitted one article. It got sent back for a rewrite because my language was too technical and they wanted me to use different wording to make it easier for people to read. I submitted it with the requested changes and then it disappeared from my queue. It was not rejected again, it was not published, and I was definitely not paid for it.

I’ve decided it’s not worth my time trying to conform to their specific guidelines if my work is going to disappear on me.

  10. Doc says:

I’m new to the site and new to the idea of being a “freelancer” /// The site is amazing and by far the best resource I’ve seen so far!

  11. Paula says:

I’ve been searching for editing and proofreading jobs through many sites that are available. As of now, I haven’t explored sites that require you to pay to register with them. Might these be more effective, or not worth the money?
    Thanks,
    Paula

  12. Kenna says:

    Deb,

I do see a change in rates and they are increasing. The clients are better too.

    Thanks for the list.

  13. Rachel says:

    Hi Kayla,

I apologize if we have offended anyone here. Regarding the submissions page – that was an oversight on my part. It has since been edited. Guest posts are not owned by b5. We’ve had people approach us in the past looking for exposure, not to start a blog with b5. There’s never been a formal way to do that. Now we can – and so far we’ve had great responses from talented writers who benefit from a link and certainly have our attention as paid opportunities come up.

If you have any other questions, I can always be reached at rachel@b5media.com

  14. Rose says:

    Hi!
Did anyone have luck with the Boston crime writing gig? The editor wrote me back asking for story ideas. But when I wrote back asking about the magazine (what it was, the name of the magazine, how assignments were paid, what style he was looking for) he never answered back.
Anyone else get a similar response?
    Thanks!

  15. Deb,

Here’s a link you and your readers should find fascinating. Found it by Googling “Alexis Tilman” (in response to your above “Freelance writer” .10/word job listing, about which you stated, “I’m not feeling this one. Proceed with caution.”)

    http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/making-money/50148-easy-100-per-day.html

Your instincts were spot-on, as this link clearly demonstrates.

Thanks for sharing your reservations about this job listing. It’s amazing how blatant people can be about these dishonest money-making and/or content-stealing tactics.

You’ll find the comments to the above post every bit as revealing as the post itself.

    Thanks again!
    Jeanne
