Twitter may seem like alot of noise to many people, but the truth is, it can also be an amazing job search tool. With so many people in one location, it only makes sense so many of them are talking about looking for work. IHere’s the thing, many people avoid social networking sites because they feel they’re time sucks. While these might be the case, they can also help leverage your career and find the freelance writing jobs of your dreams.
In this economy folks need to think outside of the box when looking for work. Instead of simply checking Craigslist and a couple of others, look beyond your usual job search engines. Instead of avoiding Twitter, embrace it. Here are:
5 Ways to Find Freelance Writing Jobs Using Twitter
1. Twitter Job Search – Twitter Job Search is a search engine pulling together every tweet about every job. Many of the people looking to hire, tweet jobs. Plus many of the places that list job, use Twitter Feed to broadcast those opportunities to the masses. If you’re looking for freelance writing jobs, blogging jobs or other jobs, type them into the search engine at Twitter Job Search. You’ll be amazed at how much work you can find.
2. Twitter Search - Twitter’s very own search engine is a wonderful place to search out jobs, potential clients and more. Simply type in your keywords and hit enter. Now, you’ll have to remember this isn’t a job search engine, just a way to find things on Twitter. So you’ll have to go through a lot of non job search-related stuff.
3. Tweet Deck - If you’re on Twitter and you don’t have a Tweet Deck, stop right now and get one. Go ahead, we’ll wait…Tweet Deck is free and allows you to see all your chosen fields at a glance. You can see all of your friends’ Tweets, your @replies, your DMs, and your searches. By keeping your Tweet Deck open you’ll be alerted to all the jobs in your search stream as they come in.
4. Word of Mouth – Follow other freelance writers and the folks who hire them. Also follow the different freelance writing job aggregators. If there are good jobs out there, your fellow freelance writers will give them a Tweet.
5. Ask – Looking for freelance writing work? Ask! You’d be suprised at how many people are willing to help you find work!

Along with @freelancewj, Twitter users should also check out these freelance job accounts: @freelance_jobs, @journalismjobs, @media_pros and @mediabistrobs. Jobs advertised by Problogger also appear in the @problogger Twitter stream.

Hi, I have just set up my wordpress blog, i also have facebook…is it necassary to also have twitter? And what is the difference?
Wow! It’s been quite some time since I’ve been on this site. I really like the new look. I just tried to download Tweet Deck but there was an error with Adobe Air (just an FYI). I never heard of Twitter Job Search…I’ll check it out!
