I’m just finishing up the most glorious week. I’m getting more rest, I’m having more playtime, and I’m doing the work I want on my own terms. I think returning to the world of full time freelancing was the best decision I could make. It’s funny, I took the full time job last year in order to have more time with my family, it turned out to have the opposite effect. Taking a full time job after freelancing for six years wasn’t an easy thing to do at all. It was an excellent learning experience though. I think it’s good to have reminders and validation once in a while. Makes us realize how blessed we are.

The blog editor gig says no pay
The “Freelance Writers Wanted For Women’s Magazine” posting asks for a photo. Is that . . . normal? It seems kind of strange, no?
Congratulations! I feel the same way. Freelancing gives me the flexibility to do the work I want when I want to do it (within reason) and spend time with my family. I hated it when I worked full-time and had to ask permission to take time to do something with my family. Now, in part thanks to you, I have steady freelance work and am enjoying life so much more!
One of the copywriter postings (writing bios) asks for references and their contact info. While I have clients who are happy to provide references, I just don’t feel right sending that info in response to a CL posting. Anybody else apply for this gig? How did you handle the request for references?
Thanks for the leads Deb. Glad things are looking good from your vantage point!
Have a great weekend~
Deb, freelancing is cool and free flowing.
Couple of questions are posted and I can answer them:
Photo requests: I have a photo at my website that I refer potential clients too. I don’t send a photo to them. Once I am hired and all is up and up, then I will send a photo for the client’s website. I pick the photo that seems appropiate to the theme.
References: I never send references at first contact. I wait and see as the process formulates a clear picture of the potential client, and then I will send my references. I base my references according to the potential client. That is if my client is a film website, then I send references from other film websites where I have worked.
Deb,
Right now I work through elance. So many sites offering similar services seem to list jobs with slave wages. Are there other reputable sites to work through? Do you prefer going from leads (like the ones you post here) or from a site?
