Freelance Writing Jobs for June 10, 2009

coffee-cup3

Several folks asked me to post their jobs this morning and I had to turn them away. There were several reasons for this. One was from an “Academic” company looking to sell term papers to students, and we don’t do that here. Others were for very low payers – some .01/word and less and one was for rev share only. We have a firm policy for posting a job ad here, and all that is done for a reason. I weed out scammers, term paper mills, extremely low payers and more so you’ll have the best gigs from around the web to choose from. Hope you’re all finding stuff you can use.

Leads…

Good luck to you all and have a wonderful day!

    When weeding out the jobs that just paY pennies per click, you missed one. Writers needed for various subject matter expertise looks like examiner.com. Bad news. If you need specificis visit writersweekly.com. Angela Hoy did a wonderful piece investigating how much people who write for examiner.com really made. It was a 2-week story. I believe the average was around $1.50 per post. Examiner.com also grabs all rights even though it tells writers that they keep their rights. I almost got sucked into this black hole, until I read the fine print on the contract.

    Thanks for weeding out the unattractive leads. We try to do the same thing over at the Writing Gigs Community on Facebook, and your site is one that we always recommend to people looking for leads that aren’t scams or low-ballers. Thanks for taking time every day to hunt leads down! Your efforts are very much appreciated.

    I got hooked up with Examiner through this site and I’m averaging $2.00 per post. However, I generally don’t do posts that require me to spend more than 10 minutes on them, so you could also say I make $12/hr. In a month, I’ve made $155. Do with that what you will.

    I also got hooked up with a job through Fancast but they made it sound like assignments would be coming with more frequency. I’ve done two things (for $80) in a month.

    Just thought I’d pass that along.

    Examiner.com is not a good gig if you’re interested in straight income. In my case, however, I was already writing a blog which was not monetizing well – and I WANTED to write on that particular topic.

    No one wanted to hire me to write on my topic of interest. except Examiner.

    Through Examiner, I’ve quintupled my readership, and I’m getting paid to do something I was doing for free. Not much pay, granted, but nevertheless I do make something.

    As with so many other things, it all depends upon what you’re shooting for. I make a WHOLE lot more money writing grant proposals, articles, for-hire blogs, educational materials and other products, and I do that to make a living.

    Thanks for the list.

  10. Hmm. Tried signing up for email RSS subscription but get the message from feedburner that email subscriptions are NOT active for this feed. Is it just me?

    @Lisa,
    Thanks for the explanation of why people might want to write for Examiner. I’d been wondering.
