Freelance Writing Opportunities for June 5, 2009

Something I’ve been struggling with for the past year is what is more important – my brand, or the brand I’m paid to build up. Don’t get me wrong, if I’m paid to do a job, I give it 100%, but if there’s one thing I learned recently is that my own brand is just as important – if not moreso. It’s not an ego thing at all. As a writer, blogger and social media consultant, I want potential clients to choose me over someone else. Without my reputation, a good brand, that’s not going to happen. How can others [Read more…]

Freelance Writing Opportunities for Wednesday, June 3, and Thursday June 4, 2009

Two days of leads in one. Sometimes life catches up, you know? FWJ just finished up its most profitable month ever! After two very dismal, disheartening months I decided I need to throw myself into this blog network more, and you know what? It paid off. Just goes to show, if you slack off or take a backseat, it’ll show. Look for more good things. Now that I’m only working part time with my social media job, I’ll be spending a lot more time here! It’s a good lesson for all bloggers – don’t give up and good things will [Read more…]

Have You Googled Yourself Lately?

Every now and then, it’s a good idea to type your own name into the search box on Google and check out the results. You may be surprised by the type and amount of information about you that is readily available online. Why should you take this step and what does it have to do with looking for freelance writing work? It’s quite simple: A current or potential client who wants to know more about you may decide to check you out online. I have been contacted by two clients who have done so. In one case, someone I had [Read more…]

Freelance Blogger Wanted – $200/month

I need a fun and creative freelance writer with experience in personal finance. You’d be writing on a few different blogs: one would have a focus on debt consolidation, one on life insurance, and one on loans. Now obviously these aren’t inherently the most entertaining of subjects, so it’ll help if you can write clearly & concisely, and not be afraid to put in a tasteful joke every once in a while. I’m offering starting pay of $200/month for one post every 2 days (roughly 15 per month), with the opportunity for bonuses and raises if the quality is there [Read more…]

Benefits of choosing a niche you adore

At one of my green-minded blogs I’m coming up on my second year anniversary, which got me wondering just how many green-minded posts I’ve written. Being anal and knowing I’d sit around wondering if I didn’t check, I took five minutes, hit all my green blogs and made a count. As it turns out, I’ve written a lot of green-minded posts; almost 2,000 eco-blog posts in the last few years which is not counting all the random green I’ve blogged for clients, eco-guest posts, green articles I’ve done, or the eco-copy I’ve done for non-profits. That’s a lot of writing [Read more…]

What's Your Specialty?

If you’re a writer, you have a lot of competition out there, especially if you sell your services on the web. There are thousands upon thousands of writers clamoring for clients, and buyers have a vast choice of which person to choose. That’s why specialization is important. You can’t just be a writer these days. You have to figure out what type of writing you do best and promote that specialty heavily. Most buyers aren’t looking for a great writer. They assume that if you market yourself as a writer, that you write well already. Buyers look for writers who [Read more…]

Have you updated your blog lately?

www.toothpastefordinner.com In the last few months I’ve been neglecting my own projects in exchange for client projects. Not smart. I mean I have excuses; job cuts in the writers market, fewer jobs around, and just because I’ve been busy in general, but if you’ve got some personal projects going it’s not wise to ignore them. Why not? If you pay for hosting for your own blogs, that’s money down the drain if you’re not making money with your blogs. While some of my blogs make a little money just sitting around, they could make a lot more if I actually [Read more…]
