Blog & Web Writing Gigs for August 19, 2009

A fair amount of decent paying gigs today, although I swear people are getting less and less clear when writing these things. It’s not that hard – Location? Pay? Hours? Duties? That works. I think maybe people are trying to be too fancy. In any case, no tip today but I do think this post is worth a read – Don’t Ignore the Hidden Job Market for Freelancers.

    Hey Jennifer,

As always thanks for all the hard work and leads. I have had experience with one of the ‘iffy’ gigs in the first post; blogger/editor for pet loving website (Yeepet.com). I repleid to their CL ad that looks very similar to this one. I did a week’s ‘audition’. They liked my pieces, and offered me a contract for a small percentage of the site, and revenues from my posts. In good faith, I gave them another week’s worth of material, waiting for the contract. The contract never showed up. I emailed them again. Eventually I got a reply saying they were ‘busy’ and the paperwork was being sent out over the weekend. Surprise, no contract. A month after I stopped posting material, I got another email saying, again, the contract is in the mail. It never showed. I really wouldn’t waste my time with the site.
