The good thing about being a freelancer is our ability to take our laptops and go. We can work on vacation or just go to the local coffee shop when we’re in need of human company. The trick, of course, is finding the places offering free WiFi. We’re only as good as our wireless connections, and fortunately for us, there are hundreds of places to connect.

Hotels Offering Free WiFi

What a great article and resource! Thank you so much! A link to this article will be appearing in my freebies blog tomorrow (Aug 5).
Thank you so much for this listing! I am bookmarking this for future reference. I currently keeps tabs on local joints with WiFi, because working from home doesn’t have to be home!
This is one reason why I can’t wait for the kids to go back to school later this month. For those days where I want to work but don’t want to be holed up in the house by myself, I can sit in Panera and work but not feel like a hermit.
Borders just changed their wifi from paid to free.
What a helpful list! As I read I imagined myself going into Staples and plunking my computer down. Not sure that one would fly, but it amused me for a minute. Thanks again for the great resource, as usual. What will you think of next?
Hi. My local Staples does not allow others to use their wi-fi, but I took my “netbook” to Office Depot (in Owensboro, KY) and they allowed me to sit in one of their model offices. It was amazing. It felt like MY office for most of the 2-3 hours that I stayed. Only one person asked what I was doing there and I told her the truth. I plan to go back soon.
If you’ve got an Office Depot, go ahead and take your laptop and plunk it down. You’ll have an expensive office minus a printer without spending any money.
Thank you Deb…I retweeted.
