I use 20 or more Google Alerts to ensure I stay on top of what is happening in the areas I write about. Of course, I alert my own name so I know when my Web articles are published.

In all the time that I have been using Google Alerts — I never thought to use the service to find freelance opportunities. Great tip!

Glad you guys liked the idea of using Google Alerts like this. It’s not a substitute for other strategies like checking out the leads on our Jobs blog or pitching prospective clients, but it’s another source of leads to check out.

This idea is so simple, a *caveman* could have thought of it. I already use alerts for music blogs, but turning them into job search tools never crossed my mind. EVER!
