How Much Do You Earn as a Writer?

Rates are a hot topic among freelance writers. Have you ever wondered what other writers earn? I created the FWJ rates survey. It asks questions about the different types of clients and how much writers earn from each type of client or website. If you ever wondered how much each pay for each individual genre or content site averages out to, I hope you’ll participate in the survey. I’ll be happy to post the results for all to see and ponder. Perhaps it will help you to make a decision about writing for a particular site or client.

Thanks for this. I’ll especially look forward to finding out about average annual salaries. I think that’s the figure that’s most telling for me.

forgive me if I’m missing something, but I can’t find the survey, just a chikita link!

Deb, for some of the questions, it would be nice to have the option of choosing more than one answer. For example, I(and I’m sure many others) write for the web, as well as for private clients and businesses. Similarly, for these clients, I write web copy, blog posts, press releases and other material…so it’s hard to pick just one answer. I think the survey is a great idea and will help everyone here learn a little bit about where they stand, how much they could be charging and what kind of opportunities are out there. Thanks, as always.

    Hi,
Thanks for asking how much i earn? I get between $4 to $6 from Associated Contents. Between 20 to 40 dollars from Guru.com as and when i get job.
But i find most of the views are avoiding the question. Why?

    Have agood Day!

    Cheers

I just signed a contract with an online magazine. I’ll make 50 dollars a week, for each 500+ word article I provide. So I guess I make 10 cents a word.
