Stars!

starSo, I have a new game for us to try out here at the Other Stuff blog today. I call it stars because it uses asterisks, and because it usually deals with famous people. Here’s how it works:

Each phrase is a clue about a particular person. You will find that two (sometimes more) letters have been replaced in the clue by stars. The missing letters will be used to begin each word of the answer. For example, if the clue was “Talksho* H*st,” you would figure out that it is a talkshow host with the initials “O.W.” (Oprah Winfrey)

As always, leave your answers in the comments, and don’t peek at the others before you post your own. Honor system and all that…

1. Nineteen Ei*hty F*ur: __________
2. *aVinci Code *estseller: __________
3. The Hand*aid’s T*le: __________
4. Cre*tor of The Lovely Bone*: __________

  2. 1. Nineteen Ei*hty F*ur: GO = George Orwell
    2. D*Vinci Code B*stseller: AE = ? (Maybe supposed to be DB for Dan Brown?)
    3. The Handm*id’s T*le: AA = ? (Maybe supposed to be MA for Margaret Atwood?)
    4. Cre*tor of The Lovely Bone*: AS = Alice Sebold

I thought 2 would be either author Dan Brown, which I almost thought you had meant to star out the D & B before the A & E; or I thought it might be Angels and Demons, but you have AE, not AD.

I thought 3 would be author Margaret Atwood, but you’ve got AA, not MA.

I’m very confused as to what numbers 2 and 3 are?

    Julia,

You are amazing. You did get them all right. Unfortunately, it’s really hard for me to type the asterisk in place of the letter, without also typing the letter. Weird, eh? I think I’ll get better now, as that was pretty embarrassing!

Still, you did an amazing job, especially since you had to use ESP!

  4. Lorna,

You’re so sweet, but don’t be too embarrassed — it’s an easy mistake to make! (I noticed the error you corrected yesterday — the Nineteen Ei*ghty F*our, with stars and all the letters — but didn’t post my answers until today when I saw that was fixed.) I wasn’t sure if I was misreading or something. :)

I love trivia, especially literary trivia! Chalk it up to having majored in English — had to read a TON.

    Thanks for these word games!
