I do a bit of writing for DS and looked forward to seeing their health care offering. After reviewing it I couldn't help but laugh - it'll cost me less to pay the $1500/month for my current coverage than to enroll in theirs. Prescription coverage is almost non-existent - if you're a platinum member you receive a $15 reimbursement. If you need a brand name medication, that $15 probably won't make much a dent at all. Even many generic medications cost in excess of $100 (although that number is thankfully dropping).

A $75 reimbursement for doctor visits, with a maximum of 4 visits per year? Or 8 visits for a family? $200 reimbursement for an emergency room visit, with a maximum of 4 visits a year? Reimbursement for only 3 diagnostic tests per year? And $1000 reimbursement for a dislocated or broken bone?

I think DS would have been better off not offering anything. Health insurance is suppose to help financially protect you when are sick. The protection here is the equivalent of putting a band aid on a severed limb.

It's a limited-benefit plan, so I wouldn't bother jumping in and working there just to get the coverage. Unless you're healthy as a horse and go to the doctor once a year for a checkup, the plans are...terrible.
