I also think some of them advertise unfairly. For instance, there are a couple
that advertises higher rates than they actually pay. When I challenged one of these, I received a reply that these rates were for their experienced writers. But that is not specified in the ad so the ad is a come-on.

Jilly, you are absolutely right! The job boards need to limit the amount of ads one company can place. I know Craiglist at least tries to weed out the spam.

Your post about companies flooding the web with hundreds of ads struck a nerve in me today. As I was looking for freelance writing/editing jobs at a few big sites I found 30 pages of 10 jobs per page for a particular company hiring for every city in the US. How aggravating! But isn’t the fault with the job boards allowing companies to flood them with the same job over and over?

Deb, I agree that Content sites are flooding the market with ads… I happen to write for 2 of the guilty parties… But, that’s one of the reasons why I come to your site because I dont have to deal with all of their ads…

I find this practice annoying too. I always skip such ads.

Those content sits fail to realise that people tend to get blind to their ads after seeing them everywhere. Less is more. Their aggressive–perhaps desperate–approach make them look unprofessional, even when they’re are serious, reliable venues.

I think Examiner is one who does that. You go to Monster (for example) and get pages and pages of the same ad, just different locations. Good grief, we get it already; you’re hiring!

Yes, I agree Deb. It’s very annoying and just looks unprofessional. (Not to say Examiner is bad. I’ve read some really good articles there.)

One ad in the sidebar on each blog and a sponsored by ad under the job list.

However, I was referring to the places with ads in every city of every town on Hot Jobs, Monster and others. I don’t spam….and for the record, I talked the DS people out of the ad feed/every city/every town/every state approach.
