The Get Well Liz Strauss Fund

Friend of the blogosphere, and my idol and inspiration, Liz Strauss, has been under the weather lately and was just released from a hospital in Chicago. While we all want to send positive vibes and good wishes to Liz so she makes a speedy recover, we’re also asking  Liz’s friends to do just a little more than that. You see, the claim for her hospital stay was rejected. The amount of debt Liz is facing is more than most bloggers earn in several years. We can help defray the cost to someone who has always been there for us.

Healthcare reform hasn’t happened. An uninsured hospital stay for a blogger is a nightmare none of us wants to face-but our friend Liz didn’t have a choice. In lieu of flowers we hope you will chip in to defray the cost of her hospital stay. If everyone donated the price of a Latte we could set her back on the track to financial health as well a physical health.

Thanks for thinking of Liz.

  1. Liz, you’ve come a long way since the days… and there’s no finer person in the world I’d “chip in” for.

Take care, get well and … don’t worry about the nachos this time ’round. :-)

  2. Count me in – sending good vibes and participation in this great effort!

Liz: I wish you the best.

And kudos to those who have stepped up (and will step up) to help her. It shows that even if we’re most often just connected through pipes and 0s + 1s that we’re truly connected. Like people should be.

Thanks everyone – I’ll be forwarding the first bit of fundraising to Liz along with a list of all her wonderful friends tomorrow morning. As of 8:00 (EST) this evening, we raised $3000. Thank you all for helping Liz and giving back to someone who gives so much on her own.

  4. Derek says:

Thanks to Deb for coordinating this and to @starbucker as well for alerting me of this initiative. I was unaware that Liz was sick, but as others have commented I didn’t even have to think twice to chip in. Anyone that has had the pleasure of meeting Liz knows how much she does for others, it is the least we can do.

    Hi Deb,

You gotta luv the power of the net and twitter. I was just telling someone who was looking to raise funds this morning about the power of the net and twitter and chipin and here is a real live example for an amazing lady i am proud to call my friend and have the priveledge of being a guest blogger on Liz’s blog as well as having met her in person.

Go Liz have a speedy recovery

    Love and hugs
    Suzie

I just met Liz at BlogWorld 2009. After one conversation with her, I knew I have a new lifelong friend. Chipping In for Liz is a no-brainer.

    God Speed, Liz!

Love and good wishes to you, Liz.

Deb, Lucretia, and Jenn – Good karma to you. Lucky to know women like you.

  9. Lucretia says:

Deb: you are amazing for running this whole initiative!! Sitting here at sea, burning 40 cents a minute to see the internet – I logged on to see if we had made the first goal.

Imagine my surprise!! Jenn and I are so blown away – but then, Liz is worth it… and 10 times more!!

    Thanks everyone.

  10. Liz–get well soon! As someone who has not been able to afford health insurance for the last 2 years, ending up in the hospital has been my biggest fear. I am happy to try to help you out.

  11. Dear Liz,

I hope you feel better soon. I’m sad to hear that you’re not feeling well. Please take these hugs, I made them just for you and they can be transferred magically through the comment box (which you taught me can be magical).

HUG, HUG, HUG, HUG, HUG, HHHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGG!!!

  12. Frank Jovine says:

    Liz,

Get well soon! I hope others will reach down and give a little for a person who really needs our help.

    God bless!

  13. Thanks Deb and Starbucker for bringing this to my attention.

WELCOME BACK LIZ! Glad to hear that you are out of the hospital now .. despite having a nasty bill – and hope you are healthy and live long and prosper!

Perhaps if all your friends can chip in a little and eat away this bill for you! You DO have a lot of friends, and don’t forget that nobody is a stranger if they have visited your site before .. so no excuse! Contribute something! C’mon!

  14. Clay Hebert says:

No brainer. Get well soon, Liz.

Great job Deb, Lucretia and Jenn.

  15. Des Walsh says:

    Do get totally well, soon!

You know there’s lots of love coming your way from around the planet, as well as the financial expression of it, don’t you?

    Hugs

    Des

    Dear Liz,

    Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Thanks everyone who started this program on behalf of Liz. The concept of having to pay for an overnight stay in a hospital when you’re sick is so abstract to me as a Canadian.

    Take care,
    Eden

  17. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Liz!

  18. Sorry to hear you have been under the weather. What an incredible network of well-wishers you have! We are thinking of you.

Liz, all that matters right now is that you are safe and getting better. Everything else is secondary. Sending you love and get well wishes.

I have to admit I don’t know Liz but from the friends she has I am sure I would like to get the chance someday… I’m donating in the hopes someday we will all be able to afford health care in a crunch.

  31. Thanks for putting this together for such a fine person as Liz. I got to hear her speak at IzeaFest, “met” her on Twitter and then was bestowed with her SOB award. Next time around I will be sure to speak with her as she is one down to earth lady! Get well Liz because we need you back around these parts.

  32. Troy Worman says:
