The Get Well Liz Strauss Fund

Friend of the blogosphere, and my idol and inspiration, Liz Strauss, has been under the weather lately and was just released from a hospital in Chicago. While we all want to send positive vibes and good wishes to Liz so she makes a speedy recover, we’re also asking Liz’s friends to do just a little more than that. You see, the claim for her hospital stay was rejected. The amount of debt Liz is facing is more than most bloggers earn in several years. We can help defray the cost to someone who has always been there for us.
Healthcare reform hasn’t happened. An uninsured hospital stay for a blogger is a nightmare none of us wants to face-but our friend Liz didn’t have a choice. In lieu of flowers we hope you will chip in to defray the cost of her hospital stay. If everyone donated the price of a Latte we could set her back on the track to financial health as well a physical health.
Thanks for thinking of Liz.

Worthy cause, what would the interwebs do without our Liz?
I sit and stare at this thoughtful gesture. My gratitude is on my face and in my heart. If I have done one thing well in this digital life, it has been finding the highest quality people I could hope to know.
Hm, this was pretty much a no-brainer. Get well Liz!
No, thank you, Liz for all YOU do.
Though it’s not showing so far, bloggers have donated $100 to the fund and it’s not even 30 minutes old.
Rock on.
Oh no! I didn’t know you were sick. Yes, thank you for everything you’ve done for me over the past few years. I value our friendship. Get better!
Feel better, Liz, glad to help … and yet another reason why we need some real healthcare reform in this country.
I hope you’re up and around, healthy and happy real soon Liz. I was sorry to hear you were hospitalized. Looking forward to seeing you back on the interwebs.

Liz is my idol, I am all to happy to pitch in (DONE), I will blog this as well. Thanks ladies for putting this together for one special lady. She would be first in line to do the same for anyone else. Liz – I hope you feel better soon!
Donated, tweeted and sending thoughts of support and wellness your way, Liz!
We’re over $300 and well on our way to the $1500 goal.
Thanks all for your contributions!
Get well soon, Liz! I have been so sick myself that I didn’t even know you were in the hospital. Take care of yourself!
So sorry to hear Liz is not well. This is a wonderful gesture of love and support and I’m happy to chip in. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Liz!
Blog on!
Here’s to a speedy recovery and sistained health soon. I’ve been following your hospital visit from afar and sending positive energy, thoughts and prayers your way. You deserve days full of wellness, life and laughter.
Here’s to putting a dent in your hospital bill! Hg to you as well.
A topic I understand all too well after breaking my ankle in July. 8 screws & one plate later, managing medical bills is now my second job (even though I carry my own health insurance). Get well soon, Liz, and many thanks to Deb for getting the word out there.
Kudos to @Starbucker for telling me about this great cause. And, as Brian said, this was pretty much a no-brainer.
Get well Liz. I am glad to be of help.
Deb – thanks so much for giving us a way to help! Liz – here’s to a speedy recovery, and a little less stress.
I too understand such an impact, with and without insurance. More than happy to help. Thanks Deb for getting the out.
Get Well Liz
Liz – glad to help out. What I have given doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of the value of your posts. Speedy recovery and my prayers are with you. – Deb, thanks for bringing this to the community that is why we’re here.
- +10 for Chris Brogans’ tweet.
Liz has done so much for me over the years I’ve been honored to know her… total no-brainer here!
Get well, Liz… we need you to continue to spread inspiration and dream achievement to the world!
Wishing you a complete and speedy recovery Liz. ♥ Your words touched our hearts
Hey Liz, the blogosphere needs you! Get well soon x
(Thanks for organising this Deb)
Thanks everyone for your support of Liz and your generosity. I’ll make sure she sees everyone’s well wishes both here and on the ChipIn page.
I don’t know why the widget won’t update but there has been an overwhelming outpouring of support and we’re almost at $1,000 now. So thank you, thank you, thank you.
Can I throw in a link to a Get Well video (Doctor, Doctor…) ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjSjmw_7uIE
Take care, Liz! You always brighten up the tweetstream!
Thank you for organizing this Deb. My thoughts are with you Liz.
<3
We’re at roughly $1400 now – thanks all. Wish the darn widget would update so you can see your awesomeness in action!
It’s was just at $1400 when I went to donate and when I got back to the page from PayPal it’s already over $1500. Amazing!
Get well soon Liz!
I got done donating and it told me the fund had reached $1505. Go grab yourself that latte I guess!
Liz, hoping you are back to your wise and witty self soon. Get well.
Get well soon!
Thanks for giving us an opportunity to help someone who’s always been there to help us. Done and retweeted. Get well soon, Liz!
I took you up on that latte offer, Deb. I know from running the 09-09-09 Twitterthon to stop child trafficking that small donations quickly add up.
Earlier this year, Liz tweeted asking whom she could help. She probably didn’t even know me, but I quickly responded “Me, please!” and a few hours later we were on the phone for 20 minutes.
Liz is some of the best of what makes social media work. My paltry donation today is hardly equivalent to the help she gave me and Born2Fly back then, but I wanted to be part of this to say “thank you.”
So, get well @LizStrauss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!

Thank you for your great presentation at WordCamp Seattle.
I hope you get well soon.
Greetings and healing vibes from Brazil,
; )
Sounds like you need a good lawyer to negotiate a better price. Retweet me if you need a Chicago recommendation. Get well soon. Health care sucks even with insurance.
We’re over $2000!!!
Thanks to everyone!
My beloved Liz???
I’m in. Time to rally.
I don’t know you, Liz, but I trust Copyblogger (who I guess I don’t exactly know either) and I know how I feel about the state of health care (Feh!) and the power of friends and twitter (heart, heart, heart) so I’m honored to join your many fans who are trying to help. I’ve always been a freelancer myself but somehow managed to raise kids and get over 65 so I’m okay now. While I’d rather bring the qualifying age of Medicare down by about 65 years, it’s heartwarming to see so many good people commenting here.
Hope all goes well,
Barbara
Had so much fun talking like a pirate with you.
Feel good soon, Liz! ~8(:D
Get well, Liz!
I chipped in a few bucks – I don’t know Liz personally but as an uninsured freelancer I can understand how she must be feeling!
There is absolutely no question about it. Liz is a true friend and has helped thousands of bloggers over the years. Glad to help out. Liz has a huge karma account and today, she gets to make a withdrawal.
Hey Liz,
Glad to chip in! You’re absolutely worth it!
Sending you good wishes from my sick bed
Get better soon.
Ahh, gotta love yet another example of the power of this community. Liz gives of herself every day to bloggers — new and seasoned. While I hate that she was sick, it’s nice to have a way to say “thank you” for the many kindnesses she has shown to others.
Liz — please go slow (Why do I bother!?) and recover fully before you go off at 150 MPH again. We’ll gladly wait.
Drew
Such a WONDERFUL idea because Liz is such a wonderful person … as are you!
I love following Liz on Twitter and understand the stress of medical bills. Get well soon, Liz.
Easiest decision I’ll make this week!
Get well soon and completely Liz…we need you!
“To the soul, there is hardly anything more healing than friendship” Liz is the most inspiring and caring friend you could ever hope to find. Get better girl we need your magic.
