Standardized rates are a myth perpetuated by the print writers of the 20th century who grew accustomed to being the ONLY people in the world who were freelancing. Now that the community of writers is a GLOBAL pool of writers, standardized rates went out the window. That's why so many of the veteran writers are continually complaining about the declination of rates, because the market has changed. They are no longer kings, they are simple another writer on the block. Only now the block is the entire world, not just a localized market. I love discussing rates, because I love using math to prove people wrong :) It's like an addiction! Rates vary because there is no such thing as a global currency. And the rates vary tremendously. IMHO, getting that kind of insider info is the only reason to worry about what anyone else is making.
