Demand Studios Announces eHow Premium Article Writers to Recieve $80 per Article

Full disclosure: Demand Studios is a sponsor of this blog. However, I am in no way obligated to blog about them on a regular basis, tweet about them or comment on other blogs about Demand Studios. I feel this is a cool bit of news and thought I’d get it out to you. That is all.

Every time I talk with the people at Demand Studios I ask them if they have plans to raise their rates. They always tell me it’s something they’re working on. I know that they’re always in discussion on the best ways to pay more money and reward their writers for quality, but I haven’t been able to report anything concrete…until today.

I just received a notice about a new program for eHow writers. A select group of eHow writers have been chosen to kick start the eHow Premium Homepage Writers program which will enable 50 (to start with) writers to receive more exposure and a higher rate of pay.

How much higher, you ask? $80 per article.

Now, the 50 writers have already been selected but that doesn’t mean you won’t have a chance to get in. Demand Studios highly rated writers will all have a chance to receive invitations into the programs.

Thanks for that step in a positive direction, Demand Studios.

The full details of this program will appear on the Demand Studios blog a little later today, but I decided good news like this couldn’t go by without a mention. Stay tuned for more good news to come.

Sounds like a great opportunity for someone who writes for Demand Studios full time. Can’t think of a downside for those who qualify.

    • Deb Ng says:

True but you know there will be people with something negative to say.

      • P.S. Jones says:

As my daddy would say “Those sound like the kind of people who always have their mouths all frowned up.” lol

      • DS Writer says:

You know there will be plenty of people complaining on the DS website. They always do. That’s all that forum is used for. Either they complain about editors, or Demand Studios, or other writers, they are only happy in that forum when they are complaining about something.

        • P.S. Jones says:

And that’s why I recently vowed to stay out of the forums there for any reason beside title clarification. I would just get so discouraged by the time I was done reading that I didn’t want to do my normal freelance work either!

Negativity is just like herpes: contagious, most people don’t even know they have it, and should be avoided at ALL COSTS!

  2. Demand Studios is a great place to write for. You can always count of them to have a large variety of titles to write about and I’ve never known them to run out. I think they’re one of the best!

  3. John Hewitt says:

That is an excellent reward for their most loyal and talented writers. I do admire what they are doing to separate themselves from the more exploitative content mills.

  4. Jerry says:

For those who can write consistently to their standards, this is good news indeed. For those of us who can’t…well. Maybe it will serve as an incentive to strive to write better, or at least to DS standards. (Yeah, I guess I’m one of the negative ones! Sorry, but frequent rewrite requests just don’t make the money they pay worthwhile to me.)

  5. Jacqui says:

What an awesome program – congrats to the writers involved! I hope the CEs are getting a proportional pay raise as well.

That’s why I love writing for Demand Studios – they provide many opportunities to go beyond the basic $15 per article for writers who consistently produce quality content.

    • Deb Ng says:

And Jacqui, this is what I try to explain to many of the the anti-DS folks. $15 is only a starting point.

Anyway, it’s great to be able to break this sort of news. Thanks for weighing in and don’t be a stranger.

  6. This is very exciting — thank you for reporting this news! I’m a new freelancer who has just started writing for DS. So far, I’ve had articles accepted and have been very pleased with the whole process. I would have not found this opportunity if it wasn’t for your blog, so let me thank you for giving me a step up in the right direction. I’m looking forward to seeing where it all grows! :)

    My negative comment= I’m jealous!!!

  8. AprilMay says:

Oh, I hope I get invited! I’ve been invited to every other special project, but as one of the “top 100″ writers. I don’t have an invite yet, so I assume I’m not one of the top 50…darn! Oh well maybe I’m #51 and an invitation will arrive soon. Thanks for the news Deb!

  9. This is excellent news. I sure hope I become one of those writers in the future.

  10. Kelly says:

On the Freelance Success forum they’re calling DS writers morons for thinking this is a good thing and saying how they can’t wait until DS goes down. Nice, right?

It’s not the content sites that are tearing apart the freelance writing community. It’s the elitism.

    • Deb Ng says:

Yes I saw and it’s very upsetting. I understand and even appreciate where they’re coming from. I just wish they wouldn’t insult others in the process.

  11. CA Burnett says:

Senior editors will be getting $7 per article. Hardly comparable, but congrats to the writers!

  12. Rachel says:

I wonder if there will be a pay raise for those who don’t qualify and are still writing $15 articles… Quite frankly, those premium articles look much easier to write.

  13. Jeremy Reed says:

    Hello,

This is Jeremy from Demand. To clarify, the payment to the copy editors will be $20 per homepage article because it will require more time, expertise, etc. The $7 that CA Burnett mentions is for another project.

I will add one point: We are trying to create more opportunities for our proven writers and copy editors. We are aware this homepage initiative will only benefit a small number of our writers and copy editors. It is one small step, but we hope a good one.

    Thanks,
    Jeremy

    • Jacqui says:

Thanks for clarifying the CE pay for this project, Jeremy. I’m glad to see that they’re getting a substantial pay increase for these articles as well; great editors are worth their weight in gold!

  14. JulieF says:

This just makes me feel that much more stronger towards my resolve in defending Demand and the writers there. Thanks, Jeremy (and team) for upping the scale.

  15. Agreed 100% with Julie. Don’t let the nay-sayers get you guys down. Thank you for the opportunities you offer the freelancing community, Jeremy — especially newcomers like myself. :)

  16. May says:

What is the word count for these $80 articles? If the CEs are being paid more to do more work, I am guessing the writers will have to do more work also.

  17. I’ve written a few (three) articles for DS. I know I’m a good writer, I know if I really applied myself to going after “bigger” markets, I could earn more than $15.00/article. But for my situation right now, writing for DS fits. I am curious though – where or how everyone finds articles to choose from? I could try their forums, but I really do not see many titles to choose from. Unless I’m an expert at automotive or home repair, there is not much for the “average” person to choose from.
