Demand Studios Now Accepting UK and Canadian Writers

Full Disclosure: Demand Studios is a sponsor for this site. This means I can have first shot at breaking their news, if I’m so inclined. Today, I’m so inclined.

You know how you keep asking me when Demand Studios will start accepting UK and Canadian applications for freelance writers? And you know how I always keep telling you we’ll have news soon?

We have news.

  1. That’s wonderful news, Deb. It took them long enough!

I’ve been out of the work loop for a while, and have been rocking the content mills between “real” gigs lately, just to make the bills. This is good news.

Wonderful! That’s really interesting news for those of us living outside the US. Thanks for the information, Deb!

  5. That’s great news! I don’t have the cycles right now but it’s wonderful to know this is an option. I was accepted by mistake a few years ago so have a login but never used it as I realised after I was accepted that they didn’t accept Canadians. Going to see if I can use that or have to start from scratch.

    Thanks, Deb

  6. Thanks Deb! I noticed this yesterday and applied. I am very excited to see what happens!

  7. Update: I e-mailed DS and got a super fast reply. They updated the original account I set up in 2008 to reflect being a Canadian writer so I’m good to go :)

How did this happen? Did you get a green card? I applied a week ago and was rejected because I have nothing to show I am officially allowed to work in the U.S.

That’s great news and a step in the ‘write’ direction… Australia next? Please? And then some actual gigs that writers from overseas qualify for…?
Keep up the great work Deb – even though I am geographically challenged by my location, I’ve still picked up a few useful leads from your site to help get me going in the freelance arena. Many thanks.

It turns out I am also geographically challenged – I live in Sweden, and their list of countries doesn’t include Sweden! I’ve put in a support ticket, but so far no reply… sob.

Unfortunately there’s a catch. Non-American citizens must have documentation proving they are allowed to work in the U.S. That is almost as hard to get as an actual citizenship.

  12. Most of this is rubbish. About.com hires dozens of writers from UK, Canada, Australia and elsewhere, and there are no tax or work complications.

They do pay by cheque, but that’s the only downside.
