So, a Writer Walks Into a Bar…

OK, it’s not exactly that, but it’s a good one. I mentioned some time ago that I wanted to gather up some jokes for/about writers. I found this one today and thought it was pretty freaking funny.

After centuries of us constantly getting it wrong, the “powers that be” gave one of our fellow writers an all access pass to heaven and hell. He decided to take a quick tour before really getting down to the nitty-gritty narrative description.

First up was hell. The demon in charge took him to see where they kept the writers whose bad behavior landed them in the firery depths. What he saw was pretty par for the course: writers in tiny cubicles, chained to computers that kept crashing, crying and sweating and searching thesauri that never seem to give them just the right word.

“Wow,” thought the writer, “that really is hell.”

Next, he found himself accompanied by a saint who was assigned to show him around heaven. Eager to see how writers were treated there, he was dismayed to see writers in tiny cubicles, chained to computers that kept crashing, crying and sweating and searching thesauri that never seem to give them just the right word.

“What is going on?!” the writer asked his tour guide. “This is just as bad as hell.”

“Oh no it’s not,” replied the saint. “These writers get published!”
