  1. Deborah Brenna says

Hello all. I just wanted everyone out there to be aware that there is a man posing as a good willed philanthropist, who is requisitioning articles for orphanage houses in the name of his deceased parents. He offers a good sum of money, in my case $400.00 for weekly articles. He seems legitimate, even supplying phone numbers and other personal information. He is, however, involved in some sort of scheme. He offers to send the first payment upfront. Then when he says the money is in rout he pushes for the first article. The day the money is due to arrive, he says that his “financier” made a mistake and sent the check for $1900.00. You are to deposit the check immediately; withdraw the excess $1500.00; and forward it to a third party. When questioned, he didn’t have a problem with waiting for the check to clear, so I suspect he may be trying to launder money. He was operating under the name Joe Arave. When I confronted him, saying that this was not the agreed upon amount of money, and I was not comfortable with the situation, he insisted that I “do this for the children.” I insisted that he pay me correctly. I heard nothing further. So please be ware of the scams that are out there. Though I didn’t loose and physical money, I lost precious time and an article.
