  1. Thanks for the list! I’m off to a slow start. I think I’m still feeling the Christmas/New Year turmoil. Time to get cracking though.

Watch out for the book editor in Minneapolis, the author is looking for someone to edit an 130 page book for only $200 and wants a week turnaround.

  3. Thanks for the list.

I am extremely interested in getting started…any tips for a newbie? Have authored and published many articles, ads, newsletters, etc., in the past (for local publications) and am now working on earning my bachelor’s degree, and need a way to supplement my income in the meanwhile.

I love working with words, and aesthetics, and am in need of guidance, so I can get the ball rolling! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, for your words of encouragement.

Hi Roxanne! Just go out there, and apply for writing gigs. With many articles, ads, and newsletters, you can easily show samples of your work. Good luck!

  5. $200 for 130 pages in one week?

It really annoys me when people want to hire a copywriter or writer and then pay such a low amount. They clearly see the benefit of hiring a writer but they never want to spend money. Would they do the same for a plumber?

    I don’t think so.

    Thanks for the list again!

  6. Thanks for the list, Noemi.

And thanks for the heads-up, Diane, about the book editor in MN. gig. I am so with you, James! My biggest pet peeve, though, is when there are a gazillion demands (must be fluent in three languages, have a masters or PhD, have 5 years experience, need no editor, be available on weekends, etc.), along with the pitifully low pay. I kind of smirk and think, “Get real!”

Smart companies and individuals realize that good writing does not come cheap!
