Bloggers get addicted to all sorts of crazy (and not so crazy) things – coffee, surfing, Twitter and more. With this in mind, here are some super addictive blogging issues to ponder this week.

Feast or Famine – how many times do you use this phrase as a writer. At least once a week? Twice a week? More? It’s true this phrase is highly addictive to writers, mainly because it’s true. However, our own Lorna Doone Brewer thinks it’s time we gave this addiction a great big shove off.

Su.pr – Oh my gosh I am so utterly addicted to Su.pr this week. I normally use twhirl for tweeting because I run many Twitter sites for multiple clients along with my own but last week one said client was all, “I want you to use Su.pr for our links.” So I checked it out and at first was not thrilled because thus far I haven’t seen that there’s a way to use it for multiple clients without going to the site (haven’t had enough time to explore settings yet), but otherwise it’s terribly addictive and cool. Su.pr allows you to see real time stats regarding clicks to your shortened link, the number of re-tweets your post get on Twitter, plus reviews and stumbles on StumbleUpon. If you write about a topic that does well on StumbleUpon (some do better than others) then you should give this service a whirl. Also read 10 Reasons You Should Use Su.pr for Twitter Links.

My Milk Toof - It’s almost irresponsible for me to send you here because it’s soooooooo addictive. It sounds like a waste of time honestly. I mean little teeth running around getting into shenanigans… huh? Who needs this. Apparently I do because I spent a whole lot of time at this now year old blog surfing back posts. Trust me, I’ve never been the type to get drawn into silly blogs like “Cats making cute faces” – it’s not for me. However, My Milk Toof draws you in with it’s totally unique stance. Also, while it’s cute sure, this blog is also a good example of something that’s missing from many a bland blog – originality. Check it out if you dare.

Maybe you’re too addicted? Some of us do more than blog like a normal sane person, we blog as if our life depends on it. We create multiple projects, think about blog traffic when we’re out with friends and just in general become consumed with too much blogging. That can be a good thing but it can also really hold you back from getting other stuff done. Read why Deb, blog guru that she is, thinks that multiple blogs might be your undoing.

Lastly, why not find out just how addicted you are. If you’ve got a few free minutes take the How Addicted to Blogging Are You quiz. I took it and the quiz says that I’m 90% addicted to blogging; which seems about right. *NOTE: Ignore the lame dating site sign-up and skip to the bottom of the page to see your results once you’ve taken the quiz.

What blogging issues/tools/etc. are you currently addicted to?

This year has been a roller coaster ride. For those of you who missed it, I maintained FWJ while working full time as a community manager, lost the full time gig thanks to budget cuts, and have to battle negativity on a regular basis for standing by a sponsor I absolutely believe in. A few people even tried to buy FWJ, but we weren’t having it.

I also welcomed some wonderful new members to the FWJ community and watched our traffic make a nice steady rise. I’ve made many new freelance writing friends both on and offline, and the revenue for this blog has allowed me to bring on new writers and make some changes I hope you find useful.

To say I have a lot to be thankful for this year is an understatement. While I won’t turn this into a big, fat kumbaya, I do want to give thanks to the people and places that helped me along the way. I hope you will use the comments to give thanks to the places that you believe in as well.

1. Media Bistro: Media Bistro is one of my first stops each day for news and advice. Beyond that, I’m truly thankful for the support of Media Bistro’s community manager Seamus Condron who is responsible for turning so many new people on to FWJ each day, and is also responsible for turning me on to so many new things as well. Seamus is very generous with his sharing and I’m so appreciative.

2. Writing White Papers: After meeting him at BlogWorld this year, I can say without hesitation that Mike Stelzner of Writing White Papers is my friend. I can also say, without hesitation, that I credit him and his annual Top 10 Blogs for Writers contest for putting FWJ on the map.

3. About Freelance Writing: First Anne Wayman was a mentor, then a freelance writing colleague and now she’s my friend. Anne is a veteran freelance writer who has a positive blog geared towards helping freelance writers make good choices that work for them.

4. About.com Freelance Writing: Though we don’t talk much, I am grateful for Allena Tapia for her good advice and for her participation here at the freelance writing jobs blog.

5. Freelance Switch: Anyone, and I mean anyone who wishes to be a successful freelancer should read Freelance Switch. Each day they offer practical tips for good customer service, productivity and more.

6. Freelance Folder: My second favorite blog for freelancers, Freelance Folder doesn’t feature filler and fluff, every day features the tools you can use.

7. Copyblogger: If I have one wish in this life, it’s that I’ll be able to write headlines like Brian Clark. I read Copyblogger every day for inspiration.

8.Successful Blog: Every time I visit Liz Strauss’ blog I come away with new ideas and lots of good food for thought.

9. The People of Walmart: I’m thankful I haven’t found my picture in the People of Walmart blog. Yet.

10. Men with Pens: Friends…and the best freelance writing community ever .(after the FWJ community, that is.)

11. Get Paid to Write Online: Sharon Hurley Hall has always been a productive, supportive member of the FWJ community and I’m happy to offer love in return.

12. Writing Thoughts: There are so many reasons I admire Laura Spencer. Her posts are always thoughtful and spot on, plus she’s practical and fair. She’s also a very supportive member of this community and I’m so grateful.

13. Poe War: I became an even bigger fan of John Hewitt after meeting him at BlogWorld. Welcome back to the blogosphere John, we missed you!

14. Carson Brackney: Carson Brackney and I have been friends for years. We haven’t always agreed but we always have each others’ respect. If you haven’t made Carson’s acquaintance, I recommend you bookmark his blogs. He’s always an interesting and enlightening read.

15. Chris Garrett: Chris Garrett and I bonded over a few breakfasts while at BlogWorld, but we’ve been friends for years. Anyone who wants to become a successful blogger is encouraged to follow Chris and learn from one of the best in the business.

16. Daily Writing Tips: DWT is on my weekly bookmark list. I read it on Saturday or Sunday mornings as I enjoy a cup of coffee. Good, practical advice for all writers.

17. Problogger: Darren Rowse is someone else who I have been following for years – and I’m happy to call “friend.” Many bloggers received their start and inspiration from Darren and Problogger. Heck, I’m still learning. Plus Darren is just a darn nice guy.

18. Daily Blog Tips: More practical advice. No fluff, just stuff you can use.

19. Rock Your Day: I dare you to read Dave Navarro’s blog and not be inspired. His productivity tips have me raring to go.

20. Someday Syndrome: Every time I experience doubt or I’m unsure of myself, I read Alex Fayle’s Someday Syndrome. Read it so your someday is a thing of the past.

21. Chris Brogan: Chris gave me a few things to think about this past year – I especially learned a lot about trust. Success is nothing if you’re not true to yourself… and everyone else.

22. The Blog World and New Media Expo: Besides being two of the best people I could know, Jim Turner and Rick Calvert welcomed me to the blog world team this year - as a blogger. It’s probably my favorite gig and I’m so thankful for their support and generosity.

23. Demand Studios: More than just a sponsor, I made some true friends among the DS team.

25. Twitter: Twitter is the most amazing tool ever. I met so many wonderful people – friends, collaborators and clients – thanks to Twitter. It’s a distraction, for sure, but it’s also a powerful, powerful tool.

I’d be remiss if I also didn’t mention the FWJ team on this list as well. Thank you Lorna, Bob, Dawn, Terreece, Lara, Julie and Simon. A very special thanks to Jodee who has been so loyal to the FWJ community and such an amazing friend.

I am thankful I never have to apologize for keeping it real all these years and will continue to offer you freedom of choice for a long time to come.

Chris Brogan addresses a topic near and dear to my heart. I’m sure Chris gets way more email than I do here, but it seems he has the same issues regarding weeding through the sales pitches and responding to everyone. Read Get Your Email Answered for tips to sending emails to your favorite bloggers and getting through the bottomless email pit.

My friend Dave Navarro is rocking CopyBlogger. Read his post about drawing readers in beyond headlines, Beyond Headlines: How to Get Your Readers to Read Every Word.
I receive mail on a daily basis from writers and bloggers who aren’t sure of the legalities of using certain images or reproducing someone else’s content. You know my mantra, “If you’re not sure if you can use something, and you don’t have permission ask.” However, I want to once again recommend Jonathan Bailey’s Plagiarism Today blog.
We talk often about running a successful freelance writing business. Freelancing is more than writing. This is especially exciting for me, because I will be in Santa Monica to speak at the conference and meet the Demand Studios community.

The finalists for Michael Stelzner’s annual honor, The Top 10 Blogs for Writers, are in. FWJ made the short list for the fourth year in a row. Will we make the Top 10? It’s too early to say. With so many awesome entries, it’s any one’s games. We’re just honored by all the nominations and recommendations.

Chris Brogan is talking about inspiration today. He wonders who inspires us. I’m inspired by creativity, by writers and artists who leave me wondering why I didn’t think of something first. It’s a very rare day when I find myself feeling uninspired. All I have to do is read some blogs or a good book, spend some time with my son and his friends, or go for a walk and I’m back on track again.

Speaking of inspiration…when I started FWJ, I was one of a handful of writing blogs specially talking about finding freelance writing jobs, landing clients and listing job leads. Now, four and a half years later, I’m one of many. Sometimes I feel as if I’m shouting over hundreds of people to be heard. At Copyblogger, Jonathan Morrow discusses How to Stand Out in a Crowded Niche and he’s dead on. The next time I wonder if it’s time to throw in the towel and let the youngters take over, I’m going to re-read Jonathan’s post.

Johnny at Freelance Rant has a Freelance in 40 Days project going. He’s taking freelancing one day at a time, laying out everything you need to know to be a success.

Whenever I need a reality check, I head over to Liz Strauss’ Successful Blog. Liz lays it out on the line, but she does so with class. At a time when so many others excuse rudeness as being “blunt” or “honest”, Liz shows us you can still be honest and respectful at the same time. I’m especially digging “Why the Brave and Smart Will Survive” where she talks about pushing through the fear to find our inner bravery and deal with conflict.

John Hewitt at PoeWar is bringing us 30 Poems in 30 Days, check out John’s ode to Kanye West.

Enjoy this weekend’s awesomeness.

It’s that time of the year again.

Every year at about this time, I let you in on my daily routine – the places I search to find freelance writing jobs. I update this list every year because it changes so much. Some of the places on my first list of 23 Places to Find Freelance Writing Jobs are no longer in existence. We also have some new sites to search since last year’s 22 Places to Find Freelance Writing Jobs list.

Here’s your 2009 Version. Please note this list is only for job lists or search engines. It doesn’t list individual content sites or bidding sites. However, there are a few sites that require a fee.

43 Places to Find Freelance Writing Jobs

Craigslist - Craigslist is my number one place to find freelance writing jobs. Say what you want about them, but I’ve found more legitimate, high paying opportunities on Craigslist than any other job search site. It has a bad reputation for being a haven for scammers, but they also have plenty of terrific gigs listed each day.

About Freelance Writing - Many of you know Anne Wayman as About.com’s original Guide to Freelance Writing. I know her as a friend and colleague. When it comes to providing job lists, Anne and I have been doing this the longest. She posts abundant lists three times each week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

ProBlogger – Ok. So you’re probably sick of hearing about my friends by now, but yes, ProBlogger Darren Rowse is a friend too. His job listing service features blogging gigs from around the world.

Freelance Job Openings - A new entry for our list this year. Freelance Job Openings has some good stuff and some clunkers. It features freelance jobs from around the world and is not writing specific.

Poe War – John Hewitt uses the Indeed search tool to find jobs to post on his informative blog for writers.

Blogger Jobs - This blog used to feature a lot more jobs. The pickings are slim but they have something good every now and then.

Media Bistro - If the big mags or media organizations are hiring, they’ll post it here.

Journalism Jobs - Features several new jobs daily, mostly for newspapers around the U.S. They also list foreign jobs on occasion.

Freelance Switch – You can have access to some awesome freelance writing opportunities at Freelance Switch but it’s no longer free. Pay $7 a month to have access.

Flex Jobs - Also subscription based, Flex Jobs provides access to tons of telecommute and flexible opportunities. It’s not cheap – About $15 per month or $50 per year. Those who subscribe tell me it’s worth it.

Online Writing Jobs – Mostly aggregates jobs from Craigslist. Posts many of the same opportunities we have here, plus some lower paying stuff.

WAHM.com - Posts telecommuting and work at home jobs. Not writing specific, but plenty of writing jobs are listed each day. The writing forum also has a few opportunities posted each week, usually overflow from other writers.

Writer Find - A good source for international jobs. Posts a few a week.

Canadian Freelance Writing Jobs- Posts leads for our friends in the Great White North.

Morning Coffee – Subscribe to receive loads of leads every Tuesday morning.

Indeed.com – A job search engine. Do your own Indeed freelance writing search here at FWJ.

Absolute Write – The Paying Jobs section of the Absolute Write forum yields several new leads a week. Some are low paying, but there’s some pretty good stuff there. Participate in the forum and discuss freelance writing with others.

Media Job Board – Features media jobs, mostly full time. Occasionally there’s a freelance writing gig.

The Write Jobs – Lists both freelance and full time writing opportunities. Some are kind of old.

Twitter - Keep your Tweet deck or Seesmic open to a freelance writing jobs search, or use Twitter Search or Twitter Job Search to view tweeted job opportunities. Some are from bidding sites, but Twitter has many awesome opportunities that aren’t listed on job boards.

Sun Oasis Jobs – Updates on a regular basis.

Jobster - Job search engine. Lists many of the same jobs as Indeed.com.

Startuply – A job site featuring listings for startups. It’s not all freelance and not all writing, but you might find one or two cool gigs each month.

Authority Blogger - Yes. Another friend. Chris Garrett runs this forum. While many of the opportunities are for guest bloggers, there are occasional paying opportunities.

Work to Live – The newest job listing blog on the block. Lists many of the same opportunities we post here, but also singles out the best of the bunch.
