Hi, some of these links don’t appear to be working. Just thought I’d let you know.

Thanks for providing these every day!

  2. Phil Says:

same issue. Links for three seeking financial writers aren’t working.

  3. MIcah Says:

    Hi Jodee,
The food author chef link isn’t working.

    Thanks for all you do.

  4. Tracy Says:

The links aren’t working for me either :(

  5. Mariella Says:

Hi guys, if you take a look at your URL box, you’ll notice that there’s just an extra “http://www.” before the real links. Just remove that and the links would work. :)

  6. Kelly Says:

Yep, I noticed an extra “http” in one as well. Deleted it and voila! It worked. :)

  7. Jodee Says:

Sorry about that, guys…Not sure what happened to me this morning. I’m going to go back in and check all of the links and update the posting.

  8. MIcah Says:

Oh I see. Thanks. What does “doe” mean when that abbreviation is used for compensation?

  9. Jodee Says:

Micah, DOE is “depending on experience”

The links should be working now. I apologize for any inconvenience.

  10. MIcah Says:

Thanks Jodee! Thanks for the quick fix also!

  11. Jodee Says:

    You’re welcome. :)

  12. Krista Says:

I just have a quick question about the McGraw Hill job. The contact info is a gmail address. Do you guys find the extension a little suspicious? I figured it would be a company email address.

  13. Phil Says:

    Krista,

You’re write to be suspicious, but McGraw Hill sometimes contracts entire projects out to editors, who then need to find writers. I did a lot of work on such a project in 1998. I knew the editor from a previous contact, so I wasn’t entering a blind ad.

The gmail could be that of an outside (freelance) editor or project manager…or it could be something to be concerned with. I would think it’s the former. While spammers know no bounds, they’re usually after bigger fish than writers — they want someone with money. :)

  14. Phil Says:

By the way, if someone wants to know more about the suburban Chicago newspaper job, contact me. Though it’s a blind ad, I’m pretty sure I know who it is — I worked for one of its competitors for 11 years.

  15. Krista Says:

    Cool. Thanks Phil!

  16. Dorit Sasson Says:

    Hey Jodee and Deb,

Thanks for the heads-up on the ESL/EFL freelancing job. As I am submitting a book proposal for McGraw-Hill, I had no idea they were on the scout for writers. Thanks Phil, for the reassurance.

    Way to Go!

    You guys are great!
    Dorit

  17. Erik Hare Says:

Phil, you are amazingly helpful. You just explained about half of the fishy looking things I’ve seen over the last few months.

I never know why people would try to scam writers, but it happens. Rates for grand theft auto are higher in poor neighborhoods, too, which also doesn’t seem make much sense, either. It comes down to motive meeting opportunity.

  18. Mariella Says:

Thanks Phil. At least now I know.

Erik, some people are just rotten. It can’t be helped.

  19. Kori Ellis Says:

I’m the new sports channel editor at b5 media. If anyone wants to write about sports, we have several openings.

The job and application link are up on ProBlogger.net.

    Thanks,

    Kori

  20. Katharine Swan Says:

I thought “DOE” meant it was to be “determined [up]on employment.” My bad. ;)

  21. MIcah Says:

Can someone advise me on the adsense with google? I have put it in the view source, then saved it…get nothing. I put it in the body of the post for my blog …just the script shows up. I could really use some help here.

  22. Katharine Swan Says:

    Micah –

Are you using Blogger or WordPress? I can’t remember, though I seem to think it’s WP.

There should be a way to switch to HTML, which is how you need to input the code. I think there may be a tab called “View Code” in WP. Try that and let me know if it works.

  23. Katharine Swan Says:

Darn it. Shouldn’t have posted that yet.

Make sure you erase the code first. Then switch over to HTML or code, and input the source code for your ads.

  24. MIcah Says:

Ok. Thanks Katharine. I will try that tomorrow morning. I’m using wordpress. I will look at plugins too for wordpress in the morning.

Also, the food writer ad is only for people who have been to culinary school. I have submitted to that one before and was declined because I don’t have the degree. Just a FYI for anyone who was interested in that.

Katharine…do you mean erase the old cold that I put in?

    Until tomorrow.

  25. MIcah Says:

    code not cold. sorry.

  26. Katharine Swan Says:

LOL, Micah. I knew what you meant. ;)
Yes, erase the code, then figure out how to enter the coding mode. Like I said, I think it may be a link that says “View Code.” Then put the code back in. :)

  27. MIcah Says:

I tried today and was able to get a search google button on it but not the referral links. I will have to dive back in another time when my mind isn’t going this fast. Patience is definitely a virtue with websites.

  28. William Campbell Says:

Great leads for today. I’ve contacted a few of these people. Your site is STILL my #1 for finding good freelance gigs. Thanks, Deb!
