Sunday Afternoon Link Love
First an announcement: I’m pleased to tell you Jennifer Chait and I are launching a different kind of blogging blog. Network Blogging Tips focuses on issues faced by network bloggers and other bloggers for hire. It’s a whole different ballgame for freelance bloggers and we hope to offer and receive some useful tips for those who blog for others. If you blog for someone else, do stop by and tell us what you think. No really. Tell us.
I actually started my weekend link love post yesterday but it was too beautiful outside to work. Instead I abandoned you for a walk in the woods with my family. If I wasn’t spending all my time outside, this is what I would be reading this weekend:
- Adobe PhotoShop launches a free online version. I’m all over this.
- Overcoming Freelance Stress at All Freelance Writing. I’ll say this though, the stress I occasionally feel from freelancing is nothing compared to the jaw-grinding fueled headaches I received when stressed out at my office jobs.
- Drilling Down Your Blogging Niche at Blog Herald. Lorelle offers some great points to think about - will you be happy blogging the same niche in five years? I’m sure I will be - how about you? That’s why the best bloggers are passionate about their niches and don’t necessarily do it for the money.
- Chris Garrett reminds us blogging isn’t a get rich scheme, also at Blog Herald.
- WordPress 2.5 is released. Dare I upgrade?
- Revisionist Blogging at Blogging Tips. Should you go back to your old blog posts now and then and update? I find updating keeps content fresh and doesn’t just leave the old posts stagnating on the back burner.
- How to Effectively Use Blogging to Build Your Freelance Writing Credentials at Blogging Tips.
- Tax Tips and Misconceptions for Freelancers at Catalyst Blogger.
- How to Turn Visitors into Raving Fans at Chris Garrett. I’d settle for silently applauding fans, but raves are good too.
- How a Few Measly Words Can Dramatically Improve Your Blog Headline and Content at Copy Blogger.
- Raj Dash at Performancing is offering up a great list of links of interest to freelance and network bloggers.
- Matt at the Copywriter’s Crucible is wondering when it’s time to start charging for content. This is of particular interest to me as I’m often encouraged to charge for job leads.
- Is There a Career in Blogging at Daily Blogging Tips.
- How to Write an SEO Article Part 2 at Daily Writing Tips.
- David Peralty is looking for columnists at eXtra for Every Publisher.
- Also at XFEP the Top 50 Make Money Online Blogs.
- A Step by Step Guide for Writing About Stuff You Know Very Little About at Freelance Folder. Personally, I’m not sure I agree with advising others to write about stuff they don’t know about and using places like Ezine articles as a source. What do you think?
- A Writer’s View of Freelance Bidding Sites at Freelance Switch. There’s a lot of discussion about bidding sites lately. YMMV.
- 10 Compelling Reasons People Read Your Blog at Successful Blog.
- James at Men with Pens is also exploring the whole bidding site thing.
- Should I Change My Website to a Blog? at ProBlogger.
- Why Real Writers Don’t Write on the Internet at The Writing Journey. More on that Great Divide thing.
Have a great Sunday.
- Deb

March 31st, 2008 at 5:45 amGo ahead and upgrade, it’s safe. So far the only conflicting plugin I’ve been told about is the limit_post plugin. Use the_excerpt_reloaded instead.
March 31st, 2008 at 6:15 amPS: the new blog is sharp! I like.
March 31st, 2008 at 6:16 amThe new blog is so excellent!
I just started my blogging gig with Daily Pixel this weekend (yes, Deb, I ended up taking the gig), and I am definitely making your new blog part of my daily reading ritual.
Thanks!
March 31st, 2008 at 6:41 am“I’ll say this though, the stress I occasionally feel from freelancing is nothing compared to the jaw-grinding fueled headaches I received when stressed out at my office jobs.”
Amen to that!
There’s definitely a lot to be said for loving what you do, and doing it a bit more on your own terms.
March 31st, 2008 at 7:40 amThanks guys for the nice comments about NBT - and to Deb for posting about it.
@Jenny are you a real Jennifer? (shame)
Just kidding, I even spell Jennifer wrong when I go fast.
March 31st, 2008 at 12:42 pm@Jennifer I know when I read the first posted comment I made I groaned and thought I’d better post again.
March 31st, 2008 at 3:59 pmAs for the Ezine article thing–I take them like wikipedia–not a primary source, but a source for facts to check out/confrim elsewhere.
March 31st, 2008 at 4:24 pmGreat job on the new blog, Deb & Jennifer!
Off to read some links…
March 31st, 2008 at 6:49 pmHi Deb,
