Since there are never many great gigs listed on Sat-Mon I figured on Mondays (when I have time) we’ll have a compilation weekend-Monday job list edition. That said, I totally forgot it was Memorial Day today, so pickings are super slim even for a normal weekend. Blogging gig tip o’ the day: It’s Memorial Day, so I’m going easy (read lazy) – read this recent post by Deb to get some useful tips; 5 Reasons You’re Not Making Money as a Blogger. Blogging and online writing leads that I think are worth your time have been slim lately – plus I’m in sort of a rush today – blah. Below are some gigs that look decent… Blogging gig tip o’ the day: When looking for blogging and online gigs, you don’t just have to stick to the job boards. You can also sometimes find jobs by heading directly to the website source – i.e. the website or blog you’d like to blog for, look for an editor/manager email, and send them your bio / cover letter. So, today there are a ton of good looking local jobs and almost no decent telecommute gigs. Ah well. Bonus tip o’ the day: When you email your bio/resume/what have you to apply for a gig, say where you’re from. I’ve landed many a gig because someone is interested in where I’m from. I.e. they’re all, “Hey, I always wanted to visit Oregon, what’s it like?!” We get chatting and getting a conversation going is a great way to stay ahead of the pack when applying for work. Will I Be Quitting Blogging Anytime Soon?
Miss mind reader Deb just posted an excellent read, Should You Work for Blog Networks? Blogging for others (OR NOT) is what’s been on my mind for weeks now. Ok, longer then weeks. It’s also been on the mind of pretty much every pro-blogger pal I have, and that’s not a huge surprise. In the last year I’ve worked for networks that have closed up shop, networks who are implementing pay reconfigurations that may or may not make it worth my time to even blog anymore, clients who have no clue about blogs, and a couple of pesky clients who [Read more…]
What do you miss from your pre-pro-blogging days?
I’ve only been blogging for money for about two years now give or take. Before that, I still blogged, I just blogged for me alone, and for no pay. I still wrote, I just did so in other writing venues. Since I started blogging for pay, I’ve noticed that I miss a couple of things from before; when I only blogged for fun. What I miss… I miss reading blogs: I know, that sounds kind of funny; a blogger who doesn’t read blogs. I DO read some blogs, but not as many as before, and also, I sometimes feel like [Read more…]
Blogging Challenge: Who Are You Actually Blogging For?
The feed question Deb posed the other day made me wonder – as a paid blogger, who am I most responsible to? Deb asked if bloggers should shorten their feeds to please readers. It seems like many people do think that whatever readers want readers should get. But what readers want is not always what benefits my client and myself. In the world of blogging you have some choices about who to blog for – you may be blogging for one, two, or all three choices. Yourself Readers Clients You may have a clear idea about why you blog. Top 11 Reasons Why I Might Quit Blogging & Open A Candy Store
Quite recently my seven year old Cedar said something akin to, “Why don’t you quit blogging and open a candy store instead?” Normally I’d tell you that candy store owner is a bad career choice for me. I barely like candy. However, there are days when the cons of blogging for others does get me down, and on those days, even candy store sounds better. Deb noted her pros and cons of blogging for others already. I didn’t read her list yet though. I figured I’d write up my own lists and see how closely we agree. I’m starting with [Read more…]

Blogging & Online Writing Gigs for May 20, 2009
Our list today is still low on decent telecommute gigs, but there’s more than earlier this week. Job tip o’ the day: Two words for you – BE NICE. Some people think nice is a boring word sure, but in the realm landing gigs it’s good to be nice. This is basic networking 101. When you’re nice, clients will recommend you to other clients, friends will share job leads with you, and people won’t talk smack about you online (well, not as much) and your online presence will stay healthy. Of course there is the flip side – read When [Read more…]
