Freelance Writing Jobs for June 10, 2009
Several folks asked me to post their jobs this morning and I had to turn them away. There were several reasons for this. One was from an “Academic” company looking to sell term papers to students, and we don’t do that here. Others were for very low payers – some .01/word and less and one was for rev share only. We have a firm policy for posting a job ad here, and all that is done for a reason. I weed out scammers, term paper mills, extremely low payers and more so you’ll have the best gigs from around the [Read more…]

This morning finds me filled with options and hopeful for the future. My job situation has changed and I’ll have a lot more time on my hands. My options are to: find another full time job, supplement my now part time job with freelance writing and consulting opportunities, or chill. I thought about only doing the part time work over the summer and taking time to relax, but with my husbands impending layoff, that’s not practical. After working full time for one company for a year, I forgot what it’s like to have options…and freedom. I’m very hopeful for the [Read more…]

We’re halfway through the month, how’s everyone doing? I like to do a little mid month analysis to see how I compare to other months. By scrutinizing my accounts each month and doing comparison to previous months and quarters I can see where I need to step up my game. Also, if I’m doing worse I know I need to hustle and find more clients. If I’m doing better, I can pat myself on a job well done. I also like to set goals. When I was freelancing full time, I set a goal each January to earn $10,000 more [Read more…]

Good morning. In looking at the schedule ahead, I see I have a very busy day. I’m finding that if I begin work at 7:30 when my family is on their way, and work straight through until 2:30, I have 7 uninterrupted hours to get things done. After that, I have time for my family, the house, and more. Of course, this is easier said than done as I find myself working ten hours a day and more. Still, I think today’s tip of the day is to find uninterrupted blocks of time to work, and try and do this [Read more…]

Do you use an editorial calendar? I have one, it helps me to stay on track – and I don’t know what I would do without it. I know many writers have fancy programs, but I never invested too much in my editorial calendar. Up until a few months ago, I used a giant wall calendar, now I use my Outlook. I’m the type of person who needs bells and whistles to go off so I can have reminders. If I don’t log everything I need to do, I’ll become forgetful. What do you use to keep track of all [Read more…]

Freelance Writing Jobs for April 22, 2009
Ever notice how one small setback can throw your schedule off for the whole day – even an entire week? One power outage, one server issue, one phone call from school, there are so many things that can throw us off track. Regrouping can be difficult, especially if you have a lot on your place. I’ve worked around the clock with very little sleep in order to make my deadlines. As a freelancer I had a few policies in place: 1. Never make a promise I can’t keep – If I say something is going to be done a certain [Read more…]

I took a day off today from my job as Community Manager at BlogTalkRadio. It’s spring break and I thought it would be nice to have a mom/kid day. I think some folks find working at home to be a great way to spend time with kids, and it is, but it’s also difficult to balance the day and the job. Though I’m fortunate to have a job that allows me the flexibility to take my son to his activities or pick up some groceries, it’s not as easy to take time off for family as when I freelanced. This [Read more…]
