How Far Would You Go To Make Money Online?

There are few things that really astonish me about the whole making money online market – truly. However, the one thing that really gets me is the vast number of really slimy marketers who would obviously sell out their own grandmother to make a buck. Those slime balls are selling silly ebooks, memberships to sites with not-so-secret methods to turning a profit and those high pressure get-rich-quick formulas that have been around almost as long as prostitution. When you think about it, some of these heavy pitching websites are doing little more then pimping themselves out in the name of [Read more…]

Profitable Niche Blogging? Absolutely!

Yesterday Darren Rowse wondered if the only bloggers who were earning a living from their own blogs were “make money online” bloggers. To be honest, I used to wonder the same thing myself. As the owner of a network of niche blogs, I can tell you it’s very difficult to monetize this network with advertising. Unless you’re selling courses or ebooks, it’s not so simple to earn money with a writing blog. Freelance writers don’t have a lot of disposable income. They don’t reach into their pockets to buy impulsively. Private advertisers want their ads on high profile blogs and [Read more…]

From Blog to Small Business

Deb’s note: I started writing this post on the plane to Las Vegas (and BlogWorld) last week. Since then I’ve seen Darren Rowse’s post at ProBlogger called, “The #1 One Reason My Blogging Grew into a Business.” Check it out if you can, it’s a must -read for anyone who wants to blog for a living. FWJ began four years ago as a blog filled with leads for work at home moms like me. As you know, it’s evolved quite a bit over the past few years. Something happened this past spring that caused me to change my outlook about [Read more…]

5 Reasons You're Not Making Money as a Blogger

Thanks to that famous $100,000 Google check and the whole “make money online” craze, everyone who blogs thinks they’re going to earn enough money so they can quit their day jobs and retire in style. It’s a nice thought. Realistically very few people make hundreds of thousands of dollars blogging each year. It’s not a stretch to earn a livable wage as a blogger, however. If you’re spending all your time blogging and have very little in the bank to show for it, you may be taking the wrong approach. Whether you blog on your own, or blog for someone [Read more…]

Is Blogging Losing the Vibe?

by Deb Ng This is the third such email I received saying basically the same thing. With the author’s permission it’s reprinted and being used as fodder for discussion: Dear Deb, I love blogs and blogging because of the community and the sharing. I’m really disappointed lately because the top pro bloggers now all turned into pimps and sales people. They’re selling courses, ebooks and the secrets of their success. Instead of blog posts discussing the topics they love, they’re turning into sales pitches. I’m being bombarded with popups every time I visit my favorite bloggers. What happened to blogging?
