Freelance Writing Jobs for August 7, 2009

Actually I was wrong yesterday. Anyone CAN be a writer.  Thanks to content sites accepting anyone without even seeing writing samples, anyone can, indeed, become a writer. However, not everyone can be a good writer and I think that’s the difference. Now before I receive another flood of hate mail, let me explain a little: I’m not trying to discourage new writers at all. While I hope I’m giving them a good place to start, I also hope I’m being realistic. I enjoy providing this haven for writers of all levels to discuss and share. However, as a lot of [Read more…]

It’s Monday and a brand new month, you know what that means. It’s clean slate time. Push away any bits of negativity or lingering doubt from last month and start anew. Let’s see what we can do to be more profitable and productive in August. I’m taking steps by working harder on my next book/ebook. I took advantage of the rain to do some serious writing and I’m happy to report it’s coming together nicely. My fresh start for August is spending at least an hour a day on this project until it’s finished – and it’s going to be [Read more…]

Freelance Writing Jobs for July 24, 2009

Don’t you hate it when you find your content, that you worked so hard to write, being used on someone else’s blog without permission? This happened to me this morning. Many writers feel they have no recourse in this day and age and if someone is reprinting their work without permission, it’s just something they’ll have to put up with. This isn’t true at all. If someone has stolen your words, you can go after them. Jonathon Bailey, from Plagiarism Today, has a great set of stock DMCA letters available for just this very thing. First send the letter to [Read more…]

What are your daily distractions? I find I have to work in a place where I don’t have access to a fridge, the television, and neighborhood gossip. Keeping focused is one of my biggest challenges in this work from home life. Most days I can stay on task, but if the job is not so interesting I find myself looking for other things to do. To combat this, I use a reward system. After I finish an especially unattractive task I’ll allow myself a chapter or two from a good book, a gourmet cup of coffee, or another treat. It [Read more…]

Yesterday, one of the regulars asked me to write about working smarter not harder: what it meant and how to get it done. You can read about it on the home page, but I also thought I’d throw out a bit in today’s writing tip. Working smarter not harder means different things to different people. For me it means to work fewer hours but earn more money, with my income level rising each year. It means choosing the clients that cause the least amount of stress and having quality time to spend with my family and friends. It doesn’t mean [Read more…]

Something I’ve been struggling with for the past year is what is more important – my brand, or the brand I’m paid to build up. Don’t get me wrong, if I’m paid to do a job, I give it 100%, but if there’s one thing I learned recently is that my own brand is just as important – if not moreso. It’s not an ego thing at all. As a writer, blogger and social media consultant, I want potential clients to choose me over someone else. Without my reputation, a good brand, that’s not going to happen. How can others [Read more…]

Two days of leads in one. Sometimes life catches up, you know? FWJ just finished up its most profitable month ever! After two very dismal, disheartening months I decided I need to throw myself into this blog network more, and you know what? It paid off. Just goes to show, if you slack off or take a backseat, it’ll show. Look for more good things. Now that I’m only working part time with my social media job, I’ll be spending a lot more time here! It’s a good lesson for all bloggers – don’t give up and good things will [Read more…]
