So as of Wednesday evening, we’ve been socked with a foot of snow and another five to ten inches expected over night. Freelance Writing Jobs for February 10, 2010

Good morning, Freelance Writing Jobs community. School is canceled for today and possibly tomorrow, thanks to the impending blizzard, so I’m working ahead on Tuesday night. Another reminder of how it’s good to have a backup plan in place for every situation. That isn’t to say I can’t work when my son is at home, just that it’s harder to get as much done. Besides, I may want to go outside and do some sledding or have a snowball fight. Wherever you are I hope you’re warm and dry. Check in and tell us what’s going on in your neck [Read more…]

Where is everyone in the Freelance Writing Jobs community located? You don’t have to give specifics, but a general region. My son and I are geography buffs and I’ve been thinking about maptacking the FWJ community as part of  project for him. Were you caught in the blizzard this weekend? It wasn’t bad in my neighborhood – maybe six inches of snow – but I know some areas received a couple of feet. Fortunately blogging is terrific for shut ins and social networking helps to keep the cabin fever at bay. On Friday I mentioned Carson Brackney would be contributing [Read more…]

What is everyone working on? To be honest, I’m not writing too many client freelance writing jobs lately. This blog and a few personal projects take up the bulk of my time, but I did stumble on some of my old clips from ten years ago which I’m going to rework with a more current slant and pitch to markets. Mostly though, I’m just doing my thing here. Your Daily Lists I’m pleasantly surprised by the wonderful comments and suggestions being put forth on our survey. It’s Sunday morning as I start this post. I have some time to spare this week and I’m using it to get ahead. To me, there’s no better feeling than knowing I had a productive day. Actually…there is something better – knowing that I’m ahead for the week and I can take it a bit easier and put in extra time on a few projects. To be honest, finding leads is the most tedious part of the day. It takes two to three hours to get it done every morning.  That’s why I try and get as much done the [Read more…]

I had a cable outage for much of yesterday. I don’t think I need to tell you how much that puts a damper on things. When you rely on your web connection for your livelihood you’re only as good as your WiFi. Fortunately for me I only had one deadline, for the Demand Studios blog, everything else can wait. It reminds me of how important it is to have a backup plan. That can mean tapping a trusted collaborator, or it can mean working at a remote location. I was able to contact my editor, thanks to my Droid, and [Read more…]

So a few days into the poll and the FWJ community has made it clear: Keep the job list focused on jobs paying above $10. You speak, and I listen! However, I have spent some time lately speaking with the people who work for or run many of the content sites we consider low paying. A couple of them have been misrepresented in certain online “investigations.” Many of the low paying jobs are still what we consider legit, they just don’t pay a lot of money. So in order to give them fair representation (and by that I mean not [Read more…]

Freelance Writing Jobs for August 7, 2009

Actually I was wrong yesterday. Anyone CAN be a writer.  Thanks to content sites accepting anyone without even seeing writing samples, anyone can, indeed, become a writer. However, not everyone can be a good writer and I think that’s the difference. Now before I receive another flood of hate mail, let me explain a little: I’m not trying to discourage new writers at all. While I hope I’m giving them a good place to start, I also hope I’m being realistic. I enjoy providing this haven for writers of all levels to discuss and share. However, as a lot of [Read more…]
