What is everyone working on? To be honest, I’m not writing too many client freelance writing jobs lately. This blog and a few personal projects take up the bulk of my time, but I did stumble on some of my old clips from ten years ago which I’m going to rework with a more current slant and pitch to markets. I had a cable outage for much of yesterday. I don’t think I need to tell you how much that puts a damper on things. When you rely on your web connection for your livelihood you’re only as good as your WiFi. Fortunately for me I only had one deadline, for the Demand Studios blog, everything else can wait. It reminds me of how important it is to have a backup plan. That can mean tapping a trusted collaborator, or it can mean working at a remote location. Freelancing vs. Full Time Telecommute

A year ago I accepted a full time position with an online company. Honestly, it was a dream job. Blogging, social media, and because it was for a virtual company, I was able to work at home. In fact, if it wasn’t a telecommute gig, I probably wouldn’t have accepted. The job didn’t quite turnout as planned and almost 12 months later, my hours have been cut to part time. Though I will miss the money, I’m rather relieved. Not because of the job, (which I enjoy) but because I missed some of the perks I received as a freelancer. [Read more…]
