Where is everyone in the Freelance Writing Jobs community located? You don’t have to give specifics, but a general region. My son and I are geography buffs and I’ve been thinking about maptacking the FWJ community as part of project for him. Were you caught in the blizzard this weekend? It wasn’t bad in my neighborhood – maybe six inches of snow – but I know some areas received a couple of feet. Fortunately blogging is terrific for shut ins and social networking helps to keep the cabin fever at bay. On Friday I mentioned Carson Brackney would be contributing [Read more…]

What is everyone working on? To be honest, I’m not writing too many client freelance writing jobs lately. This blog and a few personal projects take up the bulk of my time, but I did stumble on some of my old clips from ten years ago which I’m going to rework with a more current slant and pitch to markets. Mostly though, I’m just doing my thing here. Your Daily Lists I’m pleasantly surprised by the wonderful comments and suggestions being put forth on our survey. If you haven’t yet filled out the Freelance Writing Jobs Network community survey, may [Read more…]

Have you taken the FWJ survey to tell us what you think of the Freelance Writing Jobs network? If not, I hope I’m not too forward in asking you to do so. Our periodic surveys are how we learn how we’re doing and if we’re bringing you everything you’re looking for. We received a good response so far and with the exception of one comment (hugs and kisses to my BFF.) we’re receiving positive, constructive criticism. This will help us to bring you the tips and advice you’re looking for, do away with the stuff you’re not feeling and tweak [Read more…]

It’s brag day! My friend Becky McCray features a “Brag Basket” at her small business blog. Each week, she invites her community to brag about their goals and achievements. Since we’re all writers at various stages in our respective careers, I want to invite you all to brag today. Tell us about something totally cool that has happened either in your personal or professional life. Go ahead and drop your links. If there’s ever been anything you want to scream [Read more…]

I had a cable outage for much of yesterday. I don’t think I need to tell you how much that puts a damper on things. When you rely on your web connection for your livelihood you’re only as good as your WiFi. Fortunately for me I only had one deadline, for the Demand Studios blog, everything else can wait. It reminds me of how important it is to have a backup plan. That can mean tapping a trusted collaborator, or it can mean working at a remote location. I was able to contact my editor, thanks to my Droid, and [Read more…]

Freelancing vs. Full Time Telecommute
A year ago I accepted a full time position with an online company. Honestly, it was a dream job. Blogging, social media, and because it was for a virtual company, I was able to work at home. In fact, if it wasn’t a telecommute gig, I probably wouldn’t have accepted. The job didn’t quite turnout as planned and almost 12 months later, my hours have been cut to part time. Though I will miss the money, I’m rather relieved. Not because of the job, (which I enjoy) but because I missed some of the perks I received as a freelancer. [Read more…]
