So I tried to post a poll several times and it just wouldn’t take. Instead, feel free to cast your vote in the comments.
We’ve been getting some mail lately asking when FWJ is going to have a forum. It seems many of the regulars would like to have discussions beyond the daily topic and many of our newbie members would like to ask questions from more experienced writers.
So what do you think? Should we have a forum?
Most definitely. It’s lonely here in the scribblin’ for dollars world. After all, we’re all in this together!
By the way, thanks so much for all that you do here. I started fishing around these parts two weeks ago and scored my first freelance gig this morning. This is a wonderful, remarkable thing that you do. Long live FWJ!
Yes definately! There is such a wealth of knowledge here and I often have questions, but am not sure where to ask them. A forum would be great.
I think a forum would a great idea, a place to really kick the FWJ community into gear!
Definitely a yes from me, I`d LOVE to connect with the other writers around here. Like Jeff says, this is a rather lonely occupation. 🙂
Yes, please.
I was thinking about this the other day, actually… it’s a fine idea. My only worry is that I’ll spend some hours getting lost in the forum, when I should be working, lol :-o.
I definitely think this community could benefit from a forum! I am enjoying the new design of the site and think a forum would really give me a chance to learn even more!
Yes! I’ve been wanting a place to talk with other freelance writers.
Absolutely. There are so many people here who are experts in different types of writing who could probably help each other out. For example, I’ve just been asked to write the press releases for a theater company I belong to, and I would love to talk to people who do that professionally. I’m sure there are plenty of people here who have that kind of info (I’m just doing it as part of my company jobs, so I wouldn’t be taking away work from you!). I would think others find themselves in similar situations. A forum would be a great way to trade advice and skills.
Count me in on wanting a forum. It would be a great addition to an already great site!
I’ll bring a caution to the table. Forums are a lot of work to maintain and keep alive. People aren’t going to do that for you (even if they promise they’ll interact all the time).
We set up our forum at Men with Pens last month. It was great! For two weeks. Then… yeah. People were excited to share, determined to talk, thrilled to interact, and that’s great! We’re all for it!
So… where’d they go?
I think a forum would be very useful.
YES!
James don’t rain on our parade! LOL 😉
But it’s true, they are work. They do take moderators and people willing to strike up a conversation when the readers have nothing going on. Can the FWJ team handle that? I think so.
Great idea..a Ning format is easy and interactive.Free.
Forums are great, but like James said take a lot of work to keep going at first. I started a sports forum back in 2003 and I posted nearly 100 times a day for the first 4 months. (Yes, I said 100). It’s huge now – gets 7-9 million page views a month, whether I post there or not. But at first, it wasn’t easy.
The main reason I think you should have one is because the same questions are brought up under comments all the time because there’s no way to search for those answers.
Has anyone worked for Associated Content, About, etc.
How long do people wait for replies.
Does anyone ever get a good job on Craigslist.
the Forum would be the FAQ – making it much more helpful
Well Ok then. I’ll see what I can do. I just want to be sure that if I DO put up a forum folks will participate.
Great! I’d love there to be one. I don’t comment often because I can’t come back and keep track. A forum would be perfect.
Hello… 😉
