Today is the day I’m handing over the keys to the kingdom to Splashpress Media. In case you weren’t aware of this, I sold Freelance Writing Jobs and today is the last day under my ownership. I’ve had 30 days to think about this transaction and while I still believe it’s for the best, it’s also strange and sad knowing that FWJ will no longer be mine.
I wrote this post in my head about twelve times in the past few days but it’s not coming out like I intended.
- I thought about writing about the lessons I learned as a freelance writer, but I already did that.
- I thought about writing about the lessons I learned as a blogger, but I already did that.
- I thought about writing a long list of thank you’s but I already did that.
I don’t want to get all melancholy, but I do want to tell you that this blog and community was my life for five years and it means so much to me. You all do. I met so many wonderful people and learned more than I can tell you here. I’m grateful for the support of the freelance writing community.
I don’t want to turn this into some sad, prolonged Oprah moment, so I’ll leave you with one last thought:
You are responsible for you. Only you know the choices that work best for you and your situation. Don’t be the person a blogger wants you to be. Be the person you want to be. Be happy.
With gratitude,
Deborah Ng

I’m so sad to hear you’re leaving, Deb. I absolutely love this site — it’s very well-done, one of the only ones I use.
I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Thank you so much for everything you have done for me and all of us.
Best,
LaRita
Thank you so very much for what you have done for the last five years. It has made an unbelievable difference in my life as a freelance writer and I wish nothing but the best for you as you move forward! I really regret having done more lurking than participating in this community, but what is done is done! Thank you and take care!
Deb,
There is no way I can show you the appreciation with what you have provided me and other writers. It is a pleasure and I will watch for you on Twitter and FaceBook. This is a little something I have kept with me over the year regarding decisions…never look back with regrets with what you have decided.
Blessings to you in whatever new endeavors you start…and thank you, from the bottom of my writerly heart, for the work you put into this site.
I will miss you, all the FWJ friends and the website. You have been the highlight of my freelancing mornings. Best of luck in whatever your creative mind and hands lands on next because you are a brilliant person!
Take care,
Cindy

Thanks for everything, Deb! I truly hope the best for you. While we’re sad to see you leave, no one blames you for it…most endeavors come to an end at some point, and I can only hope that FWJ retains the level of quality in job announcements and tips as you did. Good luck to you!
Thanks for everything! Enjoy the move to fresh new things!
Thanks for all your hard work!
Thank you for all you have done to help other writers. Good luck!

Thank you, Deb. I’m sure you know that I understand how emotional this kind of decision can be. If you want to talk, please know I’m here. I hope the new owners treat your baby right.

I agree with Cam W.- This site has made a huge difference in my life as a writer and I appreciate the knowledge that has been passed on to fellow writers over the years. Thank you for everything!

Wow, Deb, we really will miss you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for starting this site. It’s what helped me get started as a freelancer four years ago. Wishing you much success in the adventures that follow. 🙂

PS Best of luck, Deb.
For goodness sakes, John. Give it time – it’s only been a couple of hours and I rarely got leads up before ten on most days anyway. The Splashpress people are good people and they’re going to work hard to continue to make this a good resource.
Sorry Deb, I guess my dry humor doesn’t translate well to the “comment” medium.
