Increase Your Traffic With One Simple Modification

One tool that can be quite helpful in drawing visitors and subscribers to your blog is *Ping* services. These services allow you to automatically notify blog directories and search engines that your blog has recently been updated.

Obviously , the longer your ping list is the greater the chance is that you’ll gain a nice traffic flow from those sources.

The list below is the one I use. Feel free to include it on your blog.

For WordPress users, you can modify your ping list on the Control Panel, then Settings, then Writing.

You say “One tool that can be quite helpful …. is *Ping* services.

Feel free to include it on your blog”

How? Do we need to visit each one and subscribe or just copy paste the list?

    Sorry, I’m a newbie

Jenna the Wikipedia page for “Ping” should help you.

Thank you so much. I have been waiting for an updated list for a little while. ‘Tis appreciated!

Great tip. I use the pinging services extensively for my blogs. I’ve also started using them for my Squidoo lenses . . . you can ping anything on the Pingler.com site.

  5. Diana Avatar

Do you need a membership for all these services?

    THANK YOU!

Easily added to Windows Live Writer.

How do I make this work with Blogger?

  8. Gayla Baer Avatar

@ Jenna – you can copy and paste the list into WordPress as described above or you can visit the update links near the bottom to ping individually and manually.

@ Jon – These lists are forever changing. This happens to be the most recent list I have and use.

@ Genesis – Thanks for the tip.

@ Diana – No membership required.

@ Meg – I updated the list above for Blogger users.

Woo hoo! Thanks for this…I’m always looking for more arcane technical things I can do for my blog. I’m strong on writing, but highly technically challenged.

Just copied them into my WordPress, which only had pingomatic. Can’t wait to see what happens!

    Thanks again!

Very cool for you to pass that along! You motivated me to share my list–after checking to see what you had that I might’ve missed, of course!

Great post. I need to look into this for my blog.I’ve been running it for awhile, but am a total n00b when it comes to things like this. Thanks for the ideas.

Ok, wow! That’s some ping list. Thank you for putting this all together!

I’m still confused as to how to add these to my blog. When I am in settings, then writing, I don’t see anything on how to add these or how to use pings.
Agree that this is a great list, but it would have been nice if you included the steps or pointed the newbies (like me) in the direction of how to do it.
The wiki page just describes what pinging is and doesn’t really help on how to add it to a blog. Is there a help page on Word Press that talks about it?

    1. Franky Branckaute Avatar

Gina, go in your WP dashboard to Settings -> Writing. At the bottom you will find a section called Update Services.

Copy the whole list Gayla posted in the field there and save it. With every entry you post all these services will now be notified or ‘pinged’ as we call it.

  16. Gayla Baer Avatar

If you are using wordpress – scroll all the way to the bottom. There is a space there to copy and paste the list into.
