Our mission is to reach out to and empower people affected by limb loss to achieve their full
potential through education, support, and advocacy and promote limb loss prevention.

Whether it is reaching new amputees with critical recovery information, fighting for fair
insurance laws, or providing daily tips to make a living with limb loss more accessible, the work
of the Amputee Coalition is impacting lives every day.
Position summary:
The Editor will work closely with the communications team to support the writing, editing, and
proofreading inMotion magazine, THRIVE blog articles, opinion editorials, manuals, and other
publications. In addition, the incumbent will assist with editing, revising, and producing various
professional documents such as proposals, press releases, e-blasts, website, social media
content, newsletters, presentation decks, and any content statements. The role requires the
person to enjoy helping to improve others’ writing. The Editor is responsible for creating content
that consistently communicates our mission and our brand style standards and ensures the
accuracy of all content. This role is key to helping Amputee-Coalition communicate our core
values of service, respect, encouragement, integrity, and excellence.
Responsibilities:
• Uses word processing software and text management systems to edit and prepare copy
for manuscripts and presentations
• Edits content according to specifications for style, tone, and length, ensuring the correct
use of grammar, punctuation, and spelling, and for audience interest, clarity, quality,
and adherence to strategy
• Assists writers with selecting and finalizing artwork, photography, and text for
reproduction
• Ensures articles, manuals, proposals, and other publications meet style, formatting, and
overall quality standards
• Work to ensure completion of publications for print vendors
• Deliver assignments by the deadline and within budget constraints
• Examines physical proofs of printed materials
• Confirms that publications meet Amputee-Coalition specifications
• Develop ideas for content and assist in managing the content calendar
• Review and edit assignments developed by the writer to ensure work is high quality and
on strategy
• Manage internal content reviews and loop in the communications team workflow
process
• Oversee creation/optimization of channel content
• Write content on an as-needed basis; assign writing projects and monitor deadlines
• Adhere to journalism best practices
• Maintains current knowledge of developments and trends around content specialty
• Coach new writers and editors through the content creation process
• Review story or article ideas
• Upload content to a management system
• Verify facts, check for consistency in content
• Build content around our core values and diversity
• Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or a related field required
• Five years of editing experience is required
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with content management systems
• Ability to meet deadlines with quality work
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to give constructive feedback
• Conceptual creative abilities
• Ability to create stories
• Proficient with text management and desktop publishing software
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Asana, or similar software

Salary, Hours, and benefits:
• Salary is commensurate with experience
• Contract position with no benefits
• Part-time, 20-25 hours a week, remote position
Work environment:
• Amputee Coalition is a fully remote organization; employees/temporary/contract
employees are expected to operate independently from a home office
• Requires occasional night or weekend work for this contract role
• May require some in-person meetings, events, or conferences from time to time
