Vox.com’s policy and politics team is looking for a summer intern to assist with our coverage of Washington, policy, and the 2020 presidential race. This internship is based in Washington, DC.
The ideal candidate for this job is a policy and/or politics enthusiast who wants to explain the news. If you can rattle off the Democrats running for president or name the most interesting members of Congress, can’t look away from the twists and turns of the Mueller investigation, or get excited about staying up until midnight to watch senators argue about policy, this might be a great role for you.
Interns at Vox write short bylined news items, contribute to newsletters, and assist senior writers with research and reporting, as well as taking on some production and organizational duties. Our interns do valuable work and get strong editing, guidance, and feedback. You’ll be part of a fast-moving, innovative team covering some of the biggest stories in the world.
This is a 12-week internship beginning June 3. We pay $15 per hour, 40 hours per week. Occasional evening work will be required for 2020 campaign coverage. Remote candidates will not be considered; you must be willing to relocate to Washington, DC, for the summer.
If you’re interested, send us by Monday, April 1:
- Your resume
- 3-5 samples of writing that you’re proud of. This can be clips from previous internships or student media, or blog posts or coursework — whatever you think best shows off your skills at reporting, writing and/or analysis.
- A short statement consisting of two paragraphs: one about why you’re interested in interning at Vox and one about what you’d bring to the team.
- One short pitch (3-4 sentences), including a suggested headline, for a US policy or politics story idea you’d want to write if you were working at Vox right now.
Paste your short statement and your pitch in the “cover letter” field of the application. Do not submit a traditional cover letter.
Finalists will be asked to complete a brief writing test.
