InvestorPlace.com, a fast-growing site with 3mm+ monthly readers, is searching for Freelance Editors to work in the rapid-fire world of Wall Street.
We want editors who enjoy deconstructing complex arguments as much they enjoy devouring quarterly reports and driving users to articles.
But we will “settle” for editors who love working a newsroom and clearing stacks of copy. If your knowledge of financial markets begins and ends with The Wolf of Wall Street, don’t fret — we will give you the education you need to succeed!
InvestorPlace Media is an actual business with an actual office, but we’re not going to demand we see your shining face. You can work in your fluffy slippers and bathrobe as long as you can work in four (4) hour shifts each day the stock market opens. You’ll be paid handsomely for your efforts: $25 an hour, or roughly $2,000(+) a month if you have the right kind of drive. If you’ve got the bandwidth, you’re always welcome to take on extra work.
You’ll work with two main types of content: single-page stories and galleries. For each, the most important part of your job will be checking facts, cleaning up grammar, optimizing for organic traffic and developing writers to produce the best version of a story. Many of our most successful freelance editors have expanded their tasks to include monitoring the homepage and posting to our social media feeds, among other tasks off the beaten path.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in financial media or with at least one year in digital publishing who can work a shift from roughly 8 am EST to 12 pm EST, but we are very flexible on our hours for those with the right experience and work ethic. If you work best overnight, there is a place for that once your onboarding is complete. If you work best before 6am, we’re accommodating to that as well.
You don’t have to know the stock market to apply, since many of our articles are about iPhones or pot stocks as much as investing in these dynamic companies, but you do need to have a black belt in digital media and SEO.
Typical work days involve editing between five to 10 articles in our WordPress CMS, with most pieces running about 750 words in length. You’ll edit heavily for clarity and accuracy but spend most of your energy tweaking headlines to resonate with our audience and ensuring our content tops Google’s first page.
Success in this role is closely tied to the amount (and quality) of users you attract with your sharp news judgment and search engine optimization. While we run at a high volume, we pride ourselves on accuracy, relevancy and timeliness. Which is why we have talented writers and big-time partnerships with major sites like Yahoo, MSN and Business Insider. But we believe high-quality content only matters if people click on it.
If you enjoy reading about financial and consumer business topics, and think you can help us balance these qualitative and quantitative needs, please send your resume our way.
