Bustle is seeking a part-time reporter who’s hungry to go beyond blogging to report on the issues in news and politics that affect our audience of millennial women and gender nonconforming people. This role involves reporting out insightful angles on the news of the day that go deeper than an aggregated news brief. The reporter will cover a broad range of items pegged to the general news cycle, including in the areas of reproductive rights, gender equality, women in politics, crime, tech and business news, and more.
The ideal candidate is able to deliver reported pieces and analysis on tight deadlines; is comfortable picking up the phone to do daily reporting and break news; and has a keen eye for spotting the Bustle angle within a national news story. And like any member of a news team, this person will also pick up breaking news briefs as required.
The ideal candidate is an experienced journalist with a track record of producing engaging stories, a positive attitude, and a collaborative spirit. This reporter will be remote and report to the Deputy News Editor for four seven-hour shifts a week.
Candidates must have the following availability (EST):

Juggle multiple articles at a time, with the ability to switch between topics at the drop of a hat

Analyze and explain complex issues in a way that resonates with Bustle’s audience
Follow Bustle style and turn in crystal-clear, conversational copy
Incorporate photos, videos, tweets, and memes naturally into news stories

Equally comfortable pitching ideas and taking assignments
Have a great network of go-to sources and industry experts
Ability to work at a speed competitive with other news outlets
