Promote Your Freelancing Business with Decals from Coffee Shop Freelancers [Giveaway]

Let’s face it. Freelance writing is a business, especially if you do it full-time. That means you need to deal with all the aspects of running a business, just like every other company – big or small – does.

Depending on your location, this may include:

  • Registering a business name and getting a business permit.
  • Keeping track of expenses and income.
  • Filing taxes, which entails knowing what laws apply and what deductions you can make.
  • Promoting your business.

Regarding the last point, there are various ways you can promote your business – blogging, content marketing, social media marketing, and having your own online portfolio. Then there is the often overlooked method of real-life promotion.

Since we work online, we sometimes forget that there is a host of potential clients that you can acquire offline.

Coffee shop freelancers

If you regularly work at a coffee shop, for example, there are probably some people who can use a freelance writer for a project. But you can’t just go around asking people in a coffee shop if they want to take on your services, can you? Nor can you approach people and hand out your business card. (Well, you can but that is probably not the best way to do it.)

A great alternative is to advertise yourself and what you do by using your laptop as a platform.

Think about it. People can’t help but stare – or at least take a look – at the laptops of those who are in a coffee shop. They may simply be glancing around, or they might be curious as to what you’re doing.

Whatever the case may be, you can take advantage of that human tendency by using decals or stickers specifically designed to promote your business.

That’s where startup Coffee Shop Freelancers comes into the picture.

They are introducing what they describe “a new way of networking” by designing and creating stickers that advertise what you do and include a call to action as well.

To get the word out, and to give the FWJ community a chance to try out their products, Coffee Shop Freelancers is giving away two laptop decals. Take a look.

We spend so much time at our computers and in our home offices that we forget how powerful real-world interaction is. I regularly send cards (via snail mail) and emails to people I read about who sound interesting. I ask to chat briefly on the phone or to grab a quick coffee if possible (and I buy!) These networking tactics have really helped me establish and grown my business.

Networking on my own and with my husband have gotten me a few clients. I love the decal idea!

Yes. At networking events, I’ve met people who have eventually become clients.

I’ve gotten a few clients via word of mouth in the real world. It’s worked out to be that, while they aren’t my highest paying, they’re definitely some of the most fun!

Yes, I have gotten several clients from networking and other business functions that I have attended in person. I have also gotten clients from word of mouth referrals – in the real world.

This is such a clever idea that I think that this will benefit not only freelancers, but also other types of businesses. I was in a coffee shop the other day and several “business people” were on a conference call. I was so curious about what their business was, I almost asked them but didn’t want to interrupt their call. If they had one of these effective decals on their computers, my curiosity would have been satisfied. Then, if I needed their service, I maybe would have approached them!

This is brilliant! I’ve never found freelance clients offline, and I’m way too shy to actually *approach* a Real Live Human. This might actually work for me, though….

What a cute and clever idea! And so simple too. I love those!

I’m not afraid to approach others about my freelance business, but my favorite coffeeshops always have that air of “I’m here to grab a drink with my friend or call family across the ocean using the free wifi.” There’s a part of me that feels like I’m intruding on their private time if I talked up my business. A cool decal would help bridge that gap.
