It’s funny, sure. But I say it’s all fun and games until your Facebook account gets hacked for real.

It’s one thing to have your spouse (or child) gain access to your account and prank you, but it’s a whole different story if hackers do it.

Using Facebook for Something Other than Showing Off My Kid

You may use your Facebook account for personal purposes only, or you may publish some posts publicly for work-related purposes. Whatever the case may be, you want to protect your account from hackers.

How do you do this?

There’s the usual “change your password often” piece of advice – which you ought to follow, by the way. But it also pays to know how hackers operate so that you can “arm” yourself accordingly.

Here are some ways hackers can get to you.

  1. Phishing
  2. Keylogging
  3. Stealers
  4. Session hacking
  5. Side jacking
  6. Mobile phone hacking
  7. USB hacking
  8. Man in the middle attack
  9. Botnets
  10. DNS spoofing

How to protect Facebook account from hackers.

  1. Use a firewall
  2. Password manager (I recommend LastPass)
  3. Use a strong password. (LastPass can generate this for you)
  4. Avoid using “Remember Password” if you’re not using your own computer.
  5. Activate login approvals.
  6. Be selective in approving friend requests.

I know some of the hacks above may sound like mumbo jumbo to you, so here is an infographic that explains everything in detail. It will help you keep your Facebook account secure.
